About The Position

The Metro Boston Area Department of Mental Health (DMH) is currently hiring for the position of Security Team Specialist II. Duties and Responsibilities (these duties are a general summary and not all inclusive): Supervisor of Security Team Specialists I. Patrols all buildings, grounds, and adjacent areas of the hospital at regular intervals and guards against trespass, theft, fire, and damage to property. Mains order among visitors and staff; maintains motor vehicle traffic controls on hospital grounds including parking, speeding and other traffic conditions and takes necessary measures to prevent unauthorized use of hospital roads and parking facilities. Performs security duties such as screening visitors, directing traffic, and enforcing parking controls. Provides personal protection to individuals as required including but not limited to, searching for missing goods and persons, conducting surveillance, and investigating complaints and reports of suspicious activities. Assists with providing custodial supervision of medically ill and mental health clients, and escorts them to various appointments. Coordinates the maintenance of hospital firefighting equipment, alarm systems and other safeguards; reports defects and request repairs in order to ensure compliance with safety standards and requirements. Monitors hospital switchboard, gauges, and alarm indicator panels; takes necessary action in event of malfunction or alarm, including system resets. Prepares reports on investigations conducted and noteworthy incidents during tour of duty. Preserves crime scenes and fire sites, performs searches and inspections, serves court summons to patients or staff, and performs job related duties for safety and security as necessary and as directed.

Requirements

  • Skill to deal tactfully with others and interact with individuals who are under physical and/or emotional stress.
  • Capability to maintain a calm composure in stressful and emergency situations.
  • Ability to make decisions and acting quickly in dangerous or emergency situations.
  • Capacity to exercise discretion in handling confidential information.
  • Demonstrated proficiency in gathering information through questioning individuals, conducting interviews, and gathering information by examining records and documents.
  • Ability to lift persons or heavy objects.
  • Applicants must have at least (A) two (2) years of full-time, or equivalent part-time experience in work involving the protection and/or security of buildings, equipment or individuals or (B) any equivalent combination of the required experience and substitutions below: Substitutions: I. An Associate’s degree with a major in a related field may be substituted for maximum of one (1) year of the required experience.
  • A Bachelor’s degree or higher, with a major in a related field may be substituted for the required experience.
  • Incumbents may be required to have a current and valid motor vehicle driver’s license at a class level specific to assignment.
  • Title 101 CMR 23.00 (“Regulation”) requires certain agency staff to have received the COVID-19 vaccination and Influenza vaccination, or have taken required mitigation measures, to prevent viral infection and transmission in State Hospitals and State Congregate Care Facilities. The Regulation applies to this position. Successful candidates will be required to acknowledge and attest to your vaccination status for both COVID-19 and Influenza.

Nice To Haves

  • Prior health care facility security or law enforcement experience.
  • CPR Certified, First Responder and NARCAN trained.
  • Ability to solve problems and relate to hospital staff, constituents, and other community members in a positive and professional manner.

  • Bilingual or multilingual fluency is preferred.
