About The Position

The mission of the Department of Military is to provide a professional staff of Arkansas State Employees who help maintain and improve the readiness of Arkansas National Guard units through effective fiscal management of State Resources, Human Resource Management, and quality administration of Arkansas National Guard Programs. The Department of the Military is a drug-free workplace, this includes medical marajuna which is still considered a controlled substance under Federal Law. (Drug Free Workplace Act of 1988) The Security Supervisor/Expert is responsible for overseeing day-to-day security operations within state-owned or state-managed properties. This role ensures the safety of personnel, visitors, and assets by leading a team of security officers, implementing security protocols, and responding to incidents as they arise.Primary ResponsibilitiesThe assignment of supervisory duties is determined by the hiring agency's operational needs. Non-supervisory roles will serve as senior technical experts.

  • Clear verbal and written communication skills to provide instructions and report incidents professionally.
  • Ability to remain calm under pressure and make sound judgments quickly.
  • Keen observational skills to detect suspicious behaviors, safety hazards, or procedural lapses.
  • Ability to de-escalate tense situations and interact with the public and employees respectfully.
  • Maintains discretion with sensitive information and exercises sound ethical judgment.
  • At least two years of experience in security operations, law enforcement, public safety, or a related field, including six months year in a leadership capacity.

Responsibilities

  • Supervise, assign, and coordinate the activities of security officers or contracted personnel across one or more state facilities.
  • Conduct routine inspections and patrols to verify adherence to security protocols and assess conditions of facilities and grounds.
  • Respond to security incidents, emergencies, and disturbances; ensure accurate documentation and escalation when appropriate.
  • Train new and existing staff on agency-specific security procedures, emergency response protocols, and customer service practices.
  • Evaluate staff performance, provide coaching and corrective feedback, and participate in recruitment and scheduling of personnel.
  • Maintain daily duty rosters, shift logs, and timekeeping records.
  • Enforce state agency security policies and procedures; ensure staff follow applicable laws and internal rules.
  • Investigate and report incidents such as theft, vandalism, trespassing, and safety violations.
  • Prepare written reports and present findings or concerns to management and law enforcement when needed.
  • Oversee the use and management of access control systems, surveillance cameras, alarm systems, and visitor logs.
  • Issue and monitor facility access credentials, including badges and temporary passes, in accordance with agency protocols.
  • Coordinate drills and participate in emergency preparedness planning in conjunction with agency leadership and emergency services.
  • Serve as a key point of contact during facility lockdowns, evacuations, or safety-related events.
