About The Position

To afford safety and security with duties to include the following: Patrol buildings and facilities to identify, report and address safety and security concerns. Greet visitors and staff while verifying credentials. Respond to facility calls for service, events and emergencies. Respond to calls for assistance with difficult clients and visitors. Assist clients with disabilities, visitors or employees in all possible ways including escorting them through area. As directed, assists police and firefighters at the scene of accidents. Prepare written reports of shift activities including actions taken to report or resolve incidents or problems. Prevent theft of state or personal property by means of presence and witness. May operate a motor vehicle to transport people and cargo to emergency situations. Administer first aid to sick or injured persons. Other duties as assigned as appropriate to rank and departmental mission.

Requirements

  • As per Civil Service Standards and Specifications.
  • Must have a current Security Guard Photo ID issued by the New York State Department of State to qualify.
  • Candidate must meet physical/ medical requirements and substance abuse screening as determined by the Director of Health Services of the department of Civil Service.
  • A thorough character investigation will be made by University Police.
  • Must have, keep and maintain the appropriate valid NYS Driver’s License; have a motor vehicle record which is free from major violations or a pattern of repeat violations.

  • Prior to start date, the selected candidate must meet the following requirements: Successfully complete pre-employment physical examination and obtain medical clearance from Stony Brook University's Employee Health Services (The hiring department will be responsible for any fee incurred for examination), clear a background investigation, submit (3) written reference, and provide a copy of any required New York State license(s)/certificate(s).
  • Please be advised that failure to comply with any of the above requirements could result in a delayed start date and/or revocation of the employment offer.
  • Please note as a condition of employment and in order for this position to be tendered, the successful incumbent will be required to provide evidence of a valid license and driving abstract from the state issuing the license within five business days of a conditional offer and must obtain a NYS driver's license within 30 days of official start date.
