About The Position

The Security Sergeant serves as the frontline supervisor responsible for managing the performance and effectiveness of security officers at Jefferson. This role involves responding to escalated calls for service, ensuring the safety and security of all personnel and property, and mitigating workplace violence. The Sergeant will patrol the campus, monitor security officers, and interact with law enforcement as necessary, while also ensuring compliance with regulatory requirements.

Requirements

  • High School diploma or GED equivalent required.
  • Associate's Degree in Criminal Justice or related field preferred.
  • Knowledge of Closed Circuit Television (CCTV), Fire Alarm systems, and Access Control preferred.
  • Valid Driver's license required for certain Jefferson locations.
  • Act 235 certification required in PA.
  • Minimum of 3 years' experience as a security/police officer, preferably in a healthcare environment, or two years of law enforcement or military service.

Responsibilities

  • Direct, assess, and evaluate security officers' performance.
  • Respond to escalated calls for service categorized as critical or major incidents.
  • Review the effectiveness of current assignments to maximize resource utilization.
  • Ensure the safety and security of all Jefferson employees, students, visitors, and property.
  • Mitigate workplace violence in accordance with regulatory requirements.
  • Patrol Jefferson buildings and campus to maintain a safe environment.
  • Conduct unscheduled checks of sensitive and high-risk areas on campus.
  • Report security concerns in writing to the Lieutenant.
  • Monitor Security Officers on-shift to ensure compliance with post expectations.
  • Act as the frontline supervisor and report problematic situations to the shift Lieutenant.
  • Review security incident reports for completeness and accuracy.
  • Ensure Officers prepare security incident reports for all complaints/incidents before the end of their shift.
  • Assist with security details, VIP protection, crowd control for special events, and on-campus escorts.
  • Interact with the Jefferson Police Department and law enforcement authorities for special events.
  • Consult and advise crime victims on reporting methods to appropriate authorities.
  • Provide assistance as a member of the Emergency Response Team during critical incidents.
