This position is a PRN (as needed) role with a shift from 2230 to 0700 hours. The incumbent will support the Security Lieutenant in leading the assigned shift and will be responsible for various supervisory and operational tasks within the Security Department. The role requires a high school diploma or equivalent, with a preference for candidates who have 1-3 years of supervisory experience in the security field or customer service. The individual must attain IAHSS Basic and Supervisor certifications within three months of hire and will undergo necessary training and attend in-services and meetings as required.

  • Support the Security Lieutenant in leading the assigned shift.
  • Perform duties of a Security Officer when assigned by Security Department leadership.
  • Brief Security officers on upcoming shift activity when requested.
  • Lead and monitor staff assigned to the shift when requested.
  • Monitor electronic surveillance equipment when requested.
  • Manage proximity access control system when requested.
  • Assist with annual evaluations of staff when requested.
  • Develop initial evaluation training and written compliance exam for officers assigned to the shift when requested.
  • Monitor required licenses and certificates of officers assigned to the shift.
  • Ensure recertification in required courses when requested.
  • Participate in interviews with applicants and make recommendations to Security Department leadership.
  • Inspect uniforms and note discrepancies.
  • Assign post assignments and schedule meals/breaks for officers.
  • Inspect radios for operational problems.
  • Interact with Nursing Supervisor to resolve problems.
  • Inspect security and video surveillance equipment and report problems to Security Manager.
  • Supervise work of Security Officers and Dispatchers assigned to the shift.
  • Ensure adequate staff daily and report any issues to Security.
  • Assist in preparation of monthly shift schedules when requested.
  • Review shift reports and follow up with officers to ensure compliance.
  • Encourage open communication among personnel.
  • Participate in formal disciplinary actions against security personnel when requested.
  • Participate in training programs as directed by Security Department leadership.
  • Complete reports as requested in a timely manner.
  • Recommend operational improvements to Security Department leadership.
  • Attend meetings and conduct in-services as directed.
  • Conduct security patrols and other duties in rotation with officers on each shift.
  • Monitor security forms and equipment inventory to ensure sufficient quantities are available.
  • Be open and accessible to personnel under supervision.
  • Enforce hospital and departmental policies and procedures fairly and consistently.
  • Set a positive example for personnel.
  • Communicate effectively through writing and orally.
  • Discuss problems/concerns with Security Department leadership.
  • Apply correct and effective crisis prevention and intervention techniques.
  • Understand distinctions between administrative and clinical seclusion and restraint.
  • Vary interaction techniques based on the age of the patient.
  • Perform 'Morgue Access' and 'Release of Bodies' according to training guidelines.
  • Perform 'Patient Valuable Collection' according to training guidelines.
  • Supervise after-hour courier functions as needed.
  • Perform all other duties as assigned.
  • Follow compliance programs and all federal and state regulatory guidelines.
  • Ensure timely writing of reports and proper follow-up.
  • Complete vehicle maintenance checklist and report deficiencies.
  • Ensure valuables are accounted for and secured upon receipt.
  • High School diploma required, or equivalent.
  • Prefer 1-3 years previous supervisory experience in Security field or customer service.
  • Must attain IAHSS Basic and Supervisor certifications within 3 months of hire.
  • Exhibit excellent communication skills (oral and written).
  • Possess the ability to think on one's feet and make quick decisions.
  • Knowledge of restraining, State and Federal criminal codes, universal precautions, PPE, MOAB, etc.
