About The Position

The Security/Safety Officer position at Aurora Medical Center Summit is a part-time role on the 3rd shift, requiring 20 hours of work per week. The officer will provide security services with a customer-service approach, ensuring safety and security for patients, visitors, and team members. Responsibilities include conducting patrols, responding to emergencies, and maintaining compliance with safety regulations. The role also involves collaboration with law enforcement and providing security awareness education to staff.

Requirements

  • High school graduate or GED.
  • Typically requires 1 year of experience in a security, related public safety, or customer service area.
  • Security Officer Healthcare Certification (CHSO) must be obtained within two years of appointment.
  • Valid driver's license issued by the Division of Motor Vehicle.
  • Firearm Owners Identification (FOID) Card or Concealed Carry Weapon (CCW) license required to carry a taser.
  • Certified in Conducted Energy Weapon (e.g. TASER) use within 90 days of hire.

Responsibilities

  • Provides security services with a customer-service approach, focusing on professionalism, fairness, and compassion.
  • Inspires confidence in patients, visitors, and team members by presenting a professional appearance and demeanor.
  • Performs routine responsibilities during interior and exterior patrols to ensure safety and security.
  • Assists team members, patients, and visitors by providing information, directions, and physical help.
  • Prevents, responds to, and investigates workplace violence.
  • Serves as a primary resource for de-escalation, utilizing use of force when necessary.
  • Responds immediately to emergency and crisis situations.
  • Investigates incidents that occur on Advocate Health property and completes timely and accurate reports.
  • Performs liaison rounding duties to cultivate close partnerships with all departments and units.
  • Maintains current Department training standards in various safety and security protocols.
