About The Position

Under the direction of your supervisor, the Security Safeguard – PT is responsible for providing professional security, safeguarding, and monitoring of maritime crew members and related personnel. This role focuses primarily on gangway security at vessels in port and designated safeguarding duties at ports, terminals, and other assigned locations. The Security Safeguard ensures the safety, accountability, and security compliance of crew and personnel while upholding the highest standards of professionalism and confidentiality.   Summary of Objectives: Serve as a professional security escort and safeguarding presence for maritime crew members and personnel at vessels, ports, terminals, and other designated facilities. Provide gangway security services, including monitoring access control, verifying credentials, and maintaining secure entry/exit procedures at vessels in port. Monitor and protect crew members during assigned safeguarding duties, ensuring compliance with company, port, and regulatory security standards. Uphold strict confidentiality and professional behavior when handling sensitive personnel matters or interacting with authorities. Communicate effectively with internal teams, port agents, vessel masters, customers, and government personnel to ensure seamless security operations. Prepare and submit accurate daily security logs, incident reports, and activity summaries. Maintain organized records and ensure documentation is completed accurately and on time. Conduct routine inspections of assigned posts, reporting any safety or security issues promptly. Abide by all federal, state, and local laws and comply with all security rules and regulations. Misc. Transportation duties may be performed only during critical needs or when authorized as backup coverage, ensuring the safe and professional transport of crew when required. Must be able to work a flexible schedule based on business needs, including days, nights, weekends, and holidays. Abide by company HSEQ policies and procedures.  This job description is not exhaustive; additional duties may be assigned as needed.  This role may evolve in response to changes in industry practices and technological advancements.

Requirements

  • A combination of relevant education (e.g., degree, certifications) and hands-on experience is preferred.
  • High School diploma or GED required.
  • Prior experience in security, transportation, or a related field is strongly preferred.
  • Must be 21 years of age.
  • Valid driver's license and acceptable driving record required.
  • Valid state-compliant security license required.
  • Must have and maintain reliable and consistent transportation and valid auto insurance in compliance with state regulations.
  • Transportation Workers Identification Credential (TWIC) must be obtained within 30 days of hire if not already obtained.
  • Proficient in using computer software and applications, with a strong ability to quickly adapt to new technologies and tools.
  • Working knowledge of Microsoft Office Suite (Word, Excel, Outlook) is required and must be demonstrable.
  • Strong understanding of security principles, access control, and transportation/maritime safety protocols.
  • Ability to remain calm, vigilant, and decisive in high-pressure and sensitive situations.
  • Ability to manage multiple tasks and thrive in a fast-paced, dynamic environment with tight deadlines.
  • Strong verbal and written communication skills, and excellent telephone etiquette, with the ability to interact professionally with diverse groups of people.
  • A demonstrated customer service mindset, with the ability to respond professionally to internal and external inquiries.
  • Highly organized, detail-oriented, and efficient in managing tasks.
  • Demonstrated ability to perform and deliver results under pressure.
  • Self-directed, yet team focused and results oriented.
  • Must be able to work a flexible schedule based on business needs, including days, nights, weekends, and holidays.
