About The Position

The Security Officer position at UPMC is a full-time role focused on maintaining a secure and safe environment within the facility. The role requires availability for all shifts, primarily overnight, and involves a rotating schedule with weekends and holidays. The ideal candidate will possess strong communication and problem-solving skills to effectively manage security operations and provide excellent customer service to patients, families, and staff.

  • Must possess strong interpersonal skills, especially the ability to effectively interact, communicate, and diffuse potential combative situations with persons from all walks of life
  • Psychological fitness required to deal with stress and potentially dangerous conflict situations
  • Physical fitness requirements to deal with typical physical demands that require full body motion and physical strength and stamina sufficient to respond to crisis interventions and medical emergencies
  • Able to deal with stress and potentially dangerous conflict situations
  • All applicants will be subject to a thorough background and criminal record check
  • Officers are required to wear a bullet proof vest.

Responsibilities

  • Staff fixed posts to monitor ingress and egress to secured areas, ensuring only authorized individuals access restricted zones.
  • Provide customer service to patients, families, visitors, and staff, maintaining a safe and secure environment through effective communication.
  • Inspect incoming and outgoing parcels to prevent theft and ensure no unauthorized items enter or leave the premises.
  • Respond to and resolve problems, disputes, and unusual circumstances quickly to minimize disruptions and maintain safety.
  • Maintain required certifications and licensing, ensuring compliance with all security-related regulations and standards.
  • Assist with traffic control and vehicle assists, ensuring smooth operations around the facility and responding to emergencies when needed.
  • Transport deceased individuals to the morgue or release bodies from the morgue in accordance with hospital procedures and policies.
  • Monitor security, fire, and environmental alarms, responding promptly to alarms and assisting with resolution as necessary.
  • Establish a visible security presence by patrolling UPMC hospitals, buildings, grounds, and associated areas to deter criminal activity and document incidents.
  • Operate UPMC vehicles in accordance with the Pennsylvania Vehicle Code, ensuring safe transportation during security operations.
  • Conduct patient escorts and stand-by details, ensuring patient safety and facilitating the smooth flow of hospital operations.
  • Complete all mandatory training programs per departmental guidelines, staying updated on security protocols and procedures.
  • Report and document incidents, suspicious activities, and hazards to ensure accurate records and prompt corrective action.
