About The Position
The George Mason University Department of Police and Public Safety (Mason Police) is seeking applications for the part-time position of Security Officer. This role is essential in providing a safe and secure environment for all university employees, students, and visitors as they engage in their daily activities. Security Officers are non-sworn University employees who are dedicated to delivering exceptional security services with professionalism, compassion, and dignity. They play a crucial role in ensuring the safety of the campus community while adhering to the laws of the Commonwealth and the policies of George Mason University. Security Officers will be available for 20-25 hours per week across various campus locations, including Fairfax, Arlington, Prince William, and Woodbridge. The position requires a commitment to excellent customer service and the ability to respond effectively to various situations that may arise on campus. Officers will be responsible for monitoring university-owned or controlled buildings and areas, performing building lock-downs and unlocks, conducting fire watches, and providing safety escorts. They will also ensure that academic offices, labs, and sensitive areas are secure, observe and report suspicious activities, and write incident reports when necessary. Additionally, Security Officers will report any physical security-related issues, hazards, and unsafe conditions to the appropriate authorities.
