About The Position

Chatham University is seeking a dedicated and professional Security Officer to join our Public Safety Department. The Security Officer is responsible for maintaining a safe and secure environment for students, faculty, staff, visitors, and university property. Responsibilities include conducting routine patrols, responding to incidents, and providing exceptional customer service to the campus community.

Requirements

• High school diploma or equivalent.
• Valid driver’s license with a clean driving record.
• Ability to pass a background check.
• Strong verbal communication skills, both in person and via radio.
• Ability to work independently and carry out routine duties with minimal supervision.
• Availability to work flexible schedules, including nights, weekends, and holidays.
• 1–2 years of experience in campus safety, private security, or related field preferred.

Responsibilities

• Conduct routine patrols on foot or by vehicle to ensure the safety and security of personnel, buildings, and equipment.
• Maintain a visible security presence and escort services as needed.
• Conduct periodic checks of emergency equipment (call boxes, lighting, etc.) and report malfunctions.
• Identify and report dangerous or suspicious activity to campus police.
• Operate the campus security system.
• Secure campus buildings and classrooms by ensuring doors are locked.
• Enforce parking policies, including issuing citations and coordinating towing when appropriate.
• Maintain professional, positive relationships with students, faculty, staff, and visitors.
