About The Position

The Security Officer reports to the Director of Security. Under general supervision, the Security Officer monitors and provides protection and security for facilities, premises, employees, patients and visitors. This position responds to security calls within the medical center and conducts basic investigations as well as troubleshooting of the electronic visitor management system. Skills needed include the ability to physically patrol the perimeter of the medical center and parking lot, as well as ability to communicate tactfully with the public. Knowledge of methods of security in buildings and grounds institution is preferred, and this position involves shift work and some overtime. Entity Medical University Hospital Authority (MUHA)

Responsibilities

  • Investigative The ability to operate, conduct basic investigative techniques of the electronic visitor “Raptor” management system. Interview and obtains detailed information from victim/witnesses to complete reports. Information abstracted from these detailed and accurate reports provide the data for the Environment of Care Committee, the Workplace Violence Committee, the QAPI Committee and various leader request throughout MUSC Health and must be accurate.
  • Patrol Responds and engages with calls for service 24/7 throughout the medical centers. Ability to physically patrol the perimeter of the medical centers, physically able to negotiate the stairwells (ground floor – 3rd floor), and ability to conduct incoming Medicare Helicopter operations on the helipad. Engages in physical restraint of aggressive psychiatric patients, aggressive patients, aggressive family members and aggressive visitors. Recover and secure firearms, knives and other weapons from patients, families and visitors. Physically patrols the perimeter of the medical centers, physically able to negotiate the stairwells (ground floor – 3rd floor), and conducts incoming Medicare Helicopter operations on the helipad. Conducts weapon detection protocols during Gun Shot Weapon (victim) Operations in the Emergency Department. Check in bodies into the morgue and release to appropriate coroners and/or funeral home services.
  • Parking Performs routine patrol by foot, vehicle or assigned golfcart of the parking lots to help deter criminal activities and to assist visitors and CTM’s. Locates and issues tickets of offenders (CTM’s) parked in unauthorized parking areas.
  • Professionalism Professionally greets patients, families, visitors and the ability to effectively communicate. Educates patients, families and visitors regarding appropriate services and available resources and assist with wayfinding.
  • Other Demonstrates a commitment to problem resolution by embracing a creative approach and focusing on efficient solutions to promote the desired outcomes. Meets key performance metrics for area and demonstrates compliance with policies/processes.
