About The Position

This Security Officer position plays a critical role in keeping patients, visitors, and staff safe at UW Health's East Madison Hospital, which is described as one of the most advanced hospitals and wellness centers in the country. The role involves patrolling hospital grounds, assisting visitors with directions, and acting as the first responder to emergencies and disturbances. The officer will interact with law enforcement, patients, visitors, and staff regarding security or safety issues. Key responsibilities also include properly documenting daily activities and writing detailed incident reports using computer software programs, as well as monitoring and operating various security systems such as access control, security cameras, intercoms, two-way radios, telephones, and alarm systems. The work schedule is 90% FTE, consisting of three 12-hour shifts per week, from 7:00 am to 7:00 pm, with rotating days and every other weekend off. Additional pay differentials are offered for evening, night, and weekend hours.

Requirements

  • High School Diploma or equivalent
  • 1 year relevant experience or appropriate preferred education requirements.
  • Valid driver’s license in the person’s state of residence.
  • Must be 21 years of age or have three (3) years of driving experience to operate a Patient/Visitor Vehicle or UW Health Vehicle other than a golf cart or utility terrain vehicle.
  • IAHSS Basic Certification within 6 months

Nice To Haves

  • Associate's Degree or progress towards a degree in criminal justice field or a Bachelor’s Degree in any other field of study.
  • Experience in healthcare security, corporate security, or law enforcement.

Responsibilities

  • For night hours - after 11:00 pm you will earn an additional $4.00/hr.
