About The Position

Reporting to the Chief of Campus Police, the Security Officer is responsible for protecting life and property and enforcing College policies and procedures across all campus sites. This includes conducting facility and safety checks, enforcing traffic and parking regulations, preparing basic reports, and other duties as needed.

Requirements

  • High school diploma or equivalent.
  • At least 18 years old.
  • Must not have been convicted or pleaded guilty to or entered a plea of nolo contender to any felony charge or to any violation of any federal, state, or city law/ordinance relating to force, theft, dishonesty, gambling, liquor, or controlled substances.
  • Must be willing to work different shifts, holidays, and multiple locations, if needed.
  • Technology Skills: MS Office Suite; videoconferencing software; digital records management systems; general operating systems and data information systems
  • Ability to communicate effectively both verbally and in writing.
  • Establish and maintain effective interpersonal relationships with students, faculty, other employees, and the general public.
  • Ability to react and lead in a high stress environment.
  • Ability to write effectively.
  • Ability to operate law enforcement equipment.
  • Knowledge of state and federal laws as it pertains to campus policing.
  • Basic knowledge of accident investigation as it pertains to applicable state and federal laws.

  • Experience in dealing with the public.
  • Conversational ability or fluent in a second language.

Responsibilities

  • Protect life and property at all NeSCC and TCAT Elizabethton controlled properties.
  • Enforce college policy and procedures.
  • Conduct regular equipment, facility, and safety checks.
  • Respond to and document suspected criminal activity, non-criminal incidents, and medical emergencies.
  • Report criminal, non-criminal, and illness/injury to campus police and/or local law enforcement.
  • Operate and maintain all equipment controlled by the Northeast State Police Department.
  • Access college computer programs and enter data.
  • Testify in court or legal/administrative hearings, as needed.
  • Enforce traffic/parking regulations and issue citations.
  • Interact with the public and Northeast State community in a positive manner.
  • Prepare basic reports.
  • Assist police officers in the management of potentially dangerous situations.
  • Complete all other assignments as directed by supervision.
