Under general supervision, the Security Officer is a first responder to emergency situations at the assigned facility. Responsibilities include making periodic tours to secure areas, providing customer service, mitigating sudden behavioral occurrences, deterring crimes, checking for irregularities, and inspecting protection devices and fire control equipment. The officer assists in enforcing security/safety related regulations and protects hospital patients, visitors, staff, and property from hazardous conditions and/or criminal activities, including the potential for violence in the workplace. Essential functions involve making scheduled rounds both inside and outside assigned areas, investigating and documenting unusual incidents, initiating corrective action, assisting other security personnel and hospital employees, and escorting visitors.
