The Security Officer is responsible for the safety and security of the staff, residents, and visitors of the Episcopal Church Home and/or River Edge Manor.

Requirements

  • Must possess, as a minimum, a high school diploma.
  • One to two years' experience in the security field, New York State registration required.
  • Report to: Director of Environmental Safety
  • Ability to function with minimal supervision.
  • Be of good physical and mental health.
  • Ability to cope with stress situations.
  • Must possess a valid New York State security guard license.

Responsibilities

  • Will report to off going shift for a status report regarding the building and its occupants.
  • Greet and assist all incoming visitors, staff, and residents in a professional and friendly manner.
  • Provide excellent customer service.
  • Relieve reception, answer, and direct all incoming calls in a professional and friendly manner.
  • Use the overhead paging system as required.
  • Carry and answer all calls and texts on facility issued cell phone in a professional and friendly manner.
  • Secures premises and personnel by patrolling property; monitoring surveillance equipment; inspecting buildings, equipment, and access points; permitting entry.
  • Daily activity is recorded electronically for each shift.
  • Use security cameras to assist in the overall security of the facility.
  • While not performing other security duties will be stationed at the security desk to monitor traffic in and out of the building and monitor security cameras.
  • Present outside at shift changes to monitor traffic in and out of the building and parking lot, and ensure the safety of staff.
  • Immediately respond to emergencies to provide necessary assistance to employees and customers.
  • Provide access to areas for staff, residents, families, vendors, and contractors upon request.
  • Open dock doors as needed for the movement of furniture and supplies.
  • Perform investigations as needed.
  • Perform or assist with fire drills and other safety functions.
  • Respond to fire and other emergencies and follow department procedures.
  • Assist with coverage for security call-ins and vacations.
  • Monitor for the need for snow removal and slippery conditions and notify the contractor as needed.
  • Assign lockers to staff as needed.
  • Conduct security inspections as indicated. Such as fire extinguishers, doors, eye wash stations, fire doors, elevators, and emergency lighting.
  • Raise/lower the flag.
  • Take and download the resident's picture upon admission.
  • Complete Resident Admission Inventory within 48 hours of admission. Scan and save on the computer.
  • Deliver medical equipment, supplies, newspapers, flowers, linen, 02 tanks etc., as requested
  • Deliver weekly supplies to nursing units.
  • Inspect windows and doors to ensure locks are in place and working.
  • Provide escort of staff to their respective vehicles as requested.
  • Ensure all exterior doors are locked and secure.
  • Completes reports by recording observations, information, occurrences, and surveillance activities; interviewing witnesses; and obtaining signatures. Investigate thefts and file police reports. Report and document rule infractions and violations.
  • Regulate and monitor building systems and notify maintenance on-call for any building needs.
  • Troubleshoot and perform light maintenance duties such as resident call light system, light bulbs, TV hookups and remotes, HVAC: etc.
  • Place maintenance and IT work orders in a computerized system
  • Remain stationed at the front desk, answering the telephone and monitoring traffic in and out of the building until relieved
  • Conduct walk-in potential admission tours as necessary.
  • Check purses, pockets, and bags for suspicious items upon request.
  • Attend all departmental meetings and in-services and facility-required in-services.
  • Wear departmental uniform on a daily basis.
  • Keep New York State certification updated.
  • Perform the above-mentioned responsibilities and standards that pertain to River Edge Manor.
  • Will assist in monitoring the physical conditions of residents as necessary.
  • Deliver the Saturday morning coffee cart to the living room.
  • Deliver Saturday morning newspapers to resident rooms.
  • Assist in maintaining the environmental needs of the building as necessary.
  • Will use security cameras to assist in the overall security of the facility.
  • Notify ED of any incidents.
