About The Position

The Security Officer plays a critical role in maintaining a secure, safe, and welcoming environment for patients, visitors, staff, physicians, and volunteers. This position is responsible for proactively patrolling and monitoring facility grounds to deter, detect, and respond to security or safety threats. Duties include access control, emergency response coordination, and the documentation of suspicious activities, safety hazards, and policy violations. Utilizes de-escalation techniques and trauma-informed practices to reduce harm and support a therapeutic care environment. Acts as an ambassador of security and safety, providing courteous, visible, and helpful presence across all areas of the facility supporting a Culture of Excellence. Security Officers provide direct support during incidents, including assisting with the management of disruptive or violent individuals, and work collaboratively with internal departments and external law enforcement to ensure a timely and appropriate resolution to security concerns. Requirements

  • High School diploma or equivalent education - Required
  • Guard Card – California BSIS Security Guard Registration - Required
  • AHA Basic Life Support Certification - Required
  • CA Driver’s License - Required
  • CPI Nonviolent Crisis Intervention within 60 days
  • IAHSS - Certified Security Officer-Basic within 180 days
  • Strong verbal and written communication skills; able to interact effectively with staff, patients, visitors, and external partners using professional and empathetic language
  • Demonstrates excellent customer service skills with a focus on safety, cultural sensitivity, and de-escalation techniques
  • Able to multitask and remain calm under pressure while managing competing priorities in high-stress or emergency situations
  • Applies sound judgment and logical thinking to assess risk, respond to incidents, and make independent decisions
  • Proficient in Microsoft Office (Word, Excel, Outlook) and able to use security technologies such as surveillance systems, access controls, and incident reporting tools
  • Understands and complies with policies and procedures, HIPAA regulations, patient confidentiality, and emergency preparedness protocols
  • Maintains working knowledge of emergency codes, response procedures, and workplace violence prevention strategies
  • Collaborates effectively in a team-oriented environment; supports peer accountability and shared goals
  • Participates in department projects and quality improvement initiatives; contributes creative ideas to improve service and safety
  • Uses equipment responsibly and helps ensure resource efficiency and cost-conscious practices
  • Engages in professional development, ongoing training, and annual skills assessments to maintain competency
  • Interacts with diverse populations respectfully, supporting an inclusive and culturally aware environment

  • Criminal justice, security, or customer service-related experience - Preferred
  • Conductive Energy Device Certification (Taser 7 or equivalent) - Preferred
