Security Officer - Public Safety - PRN As Needed With the general supervision of the Public Safety Manager, the Public Safety Officer completes regular tours of BMC, patrols grounds on foot and in vehicle to maintain order throughout BMC property. Responsible for protecting life and property of all persons on hospital premises and polices BMC buildings and grounds in order to prevent and/or respond quickly to fire, theft, assault or vandalism. Requirements

  • High school diploma or equivalent
  • Valid Iowa Drivers license
  • May not be convicted of a crime other than a minor traffic violation in the previous 5 years, may not be convicted of a felony crime at any time; and may not have more than 3 moving violations in a 12-month period.
  • One (1) year of security, behavioral health or related experience, or two or four year degree in related field.
  • Officers that do not meet the minimum education or experience requirements must serve a 6-month probationary period, complete all required training, and demonstrate competency in all public safety duties.
  • Successful completion of the probationary period will be documented on the 6 month performance review.
  • Excellent written and verbal communication skills
  • Ability to work independently and without direct supervision
  • Ability to physically manage aggressive individuals, including physically restraining.
  • Ability to complete training necessary for the performance of the job (e.g., weapon systems of Taser, ASP Baton, and OC Spray successfully completed through BMC within six months of hire date).
  • Taser and OC Spray training require exposture to these weapon systems,
  • Ability to remain calm during crisis situations.
