About The Position

This position is ECB status - requires a minimum number of worked hours per month as needed by the department; limited benefit offerings. The job involves providing security for Saint Francis Hospital patients, visitors, staff, equipment, supplies, facilities, and hospital contents. The shift is Thursday to Saturday and every other Wednesday from 7:30 PM to 7:00 AM, with a minimum of 16 hours per month and a maximum of 29 hours per week.

Requirements

  • High School Diploma or GED.
  • CLEET certified peace officers must obtain CLEET Armed Security Guard Certification within 90 days of hire.
  • All others must obtain CLEET Armed Security Guard Certification within 60 days of hire.
  • 1 - 2 years of related security experience.
  • Ability to utilize effective oral, written, and listening skills to communicate with the public.
  • Ability to utilize positive interpersonal skills to interact with patients, visitors, and hospital staff.

Responsibilities

  • Implements necessary security measures to protect the life and property of all persons within the hospital complex.
  • Controls unruly visitors and, under the direction of a physician, controls patients, especially in the Trauma Emergency Center.
  • Provides backup to officers in other areas of the hospital to contain and resolve disruptions.
  • Responds to fire alarms and acts as directed by the Hospital Fire Marshal or Stationary Engineers.
  • Directs hospital personnel in cases of immediate danger or pending disaster.
  • Notifies dispatch of shift events for logging purposes.
  • Performs the function of Security Dispatcher when needed.
  • Investigates unusual incidents, completes incident reports, and submits them to the Risk Management Department.
  • Observes employees entering and leaving the hospital at shift change and provides escort service when requested.
  • Controls traffic on the hospital complex and writes citations for parking violations when necessary.
  • Conducts patrols of the hospital premises, examining doors, windows, and suspicious activity.
