About The Position

Under general supervision, the Zoo Ranger is responsible for patrolling all Zoo areas, ensuring safety and security for all Zoo guests, employees, animals and facilities. This position also provides customer service and assistance to Zoo guests and employees.

Requirements

• High school diploma or equivalent required.
• At least 1 year of security experience preferred.
• Strong computer skills, including Microsoft Office, preferred.
• Strong verbal and written communication skills.
• Must have valid driver's license.
• Must have/be able to obtain a Private Security License through the Kansas City Police Department's Private Officers Licensing Unit.
• Must be able to lift 50 pounds, with or without assistance.
• Must be willing to work a flexible schedule, including weekends, holidays and evening hours, in all weather extremes.
• Must pass a background and drug screening.

Responsibilities

• Patrols Zoo grounds and performs physical checks of areas to ensure safety and security of guests, staff and facilities, including checking and securing locks and buildings, including obtaining and monitoring building temperatures in animal areas.
• Patrolling and observing parking areas to deter crime and theft.
• Completing and maintaining accurate daily logs.
• Completing accurate incident reports, as needed.
• Performing traffic control for Zoo & Aquarium special events, school field trips, etc.
• Monitors Zoo grounds, buildings, parking lots and security cameras, including patrolling areas in vehicle and on foot to ensure safety and provide assistance to guests and staff.
• Monitoring gate traffic and escorting visitors and vendors, as needed.
• Responding to guest and staff calls for service or assistance.
