About The Position

The Security Officer - Relief position at Thomas Jefferson University is responsible for ensuring the safety and security of university and hospital personnel, patients, students, visitors, and university assets. The role involves performing security duties at fixed posts or while patrolling the campus, responding to calls for service, and addressing security violations and safety hazards. The officer will interact with various stakeholders and assist in emergency situations, maintaining a visible presence to promote safety and security on campus.

Requirements

• High School Diploma or equivalent required.
• Prior security, police, or military experience preferred, especially in campus/hospital security or law enforcement.
• Valid ACT 235 Certification required within 90 days of hire for Pennsylvania.
• Valid driver's license required for certain Jefferson locations.
• Ability to understand responsibilities and technology associated with the 24-hour Security Response Center (SRC).
• Proficiency in Microsoft desktop applications (e.g., Word, Email).
• Ability to work all shifts and rotate between shifts as needed.

• Experience in campus/hospital security or related Criminal Justice agencies.

Responsibilities

• Perform security patrols at fixed posts or on patrol, checking for security violations and safety hazards.
• Respond promptly to calls for service, including emergencies, and notify supervisors of conditions.
• Investigate and document reports on accidents, incidents, or suspicious activities, maintaining a daily patrol log.
• Provide assistance to employees, students, patients, and visitors as incidents occur, including security escorts upon request.
• Assist with campus parking issues and patrol parking lots and equipment.
• Support safety teams during emergencies, including assisting with helicopter landings and fire-related incidents.
• Enforce no smoking policies on campus and perform other related security duties as assigned.
