About The Position

The Security Officer position at Frederick Health is a part-time role responsible for ensuring a safe and secure environment for hospital patients, visitors, and employees. The officer will enforce security regulations, monitor for hazards, and respond to emergencies while supporting the hospital's mission and compliance standards.

Requirements

  • Minimum of a high school diploma required.
  • Maryland State Police (MSP) Security Guard Card certification preferred or must obtain within the first 180 days of employment.
  • 1-3 years of security or related experience preferred.
  • Must possess and maintain a valid Maryland driver's license or valid license from the state of residence.
  • Must submit to and pass a criminal background check.
  • Must obtain De-Escalation Training within the first 6 months and maintain throughout employment.
  • Must obtain International Association of Healthcare Safety and Security (IAHSS) Basic Officer Certification and CPR within the first 90 days of employment.

Responsibilities

  • Provide protection to people and property through patrol, investigation, monitoring alarms and surveillance cameras.
  • Provide escorts for staff, visitors, and patients as requested.
  • Apprehend criminal violators when necessary and appropriate.
  • Provide emergency response to a variety of situations.
  • Apply patient restraints as needed.
  • Patrol assigned areas, both buildings and grounds, giving attention to areas with security problems.
  • Identify unsafe conditions and improperly secured areas to help prevent theft, injuries, or damages.
  • Conduct preliminary investigations into thefts and other complaints involving potential criminal misconduct.
  • Prepare and submit written reports and daily events in a complete, timely, and accurate manner.
  • Log all responses and incidents and maintain accountability for valuables/property and evidence.
  • Perform fire drills as required and assist in morgue releases.
  • Monitor CCTV and Access Control system and ready the helicopter landing area.
  • Provide support for patient transports and participate in assistance with workplace violence victims.
  • Act as a first responder to HazMat incidents and create safety awareness among patients, visitors, and staff.
