About The Position

DPL is hiring a Security Officer Lead to work out of the Central Library in downtown Denver.. This position is to help create positive experiences for library customers by maintaining a safe and secure environment for customers and staff. You'll receive on the job training to develop skills and abilities related to the position, including certification in First Aid, CPR and in the usage of an AED, Narcan usage, defensive tactics and verbal de-escalation training. The Denver Public Library's Security Department is a 24 hour, 7 day a week operation. This gives us the flexibility to work with people with unique scheduling needs. This position is based at the Central Library, which only has pay to park options, but regular employees are eligible for an ECO Pass. We provide uniforms and training to all of our officers to ensure they are well equipped for all situations.

Requirements

  • Solid customer service background and is committed to providing a safe and welcoming environment to everyone who uses the library.
  • Knowledge of safety and security in a public setting.
  • Will be able to drive a company vehicle to multiple DPL locations
  • Valid Drivers license and insurance
  • Knowledge of emergency procedures, safety hazards and how to delegate to a team.
  • Ability to use workplace technology effectively including email, calendar, internet, databases, video conferencing, and other software.
  • Graduation from high school or the possession of a GED, HiSET or TASC Certificate.
  • Three (3) years of experience working with security and safety issues, including reporting unauthorized activity or emergencies.
  • Additional appropriate education may be substituted for the minimum experience requirement.

Nice To Haves

  • Proven experience in security operations with a background in a leadership or "Lead" capacity.
  • Willingness to perform auxiliary duties such as business transport or assisting at shipping docks/other branch locations as needed.

Responsibilities

  • Ability to train new officers and remediate behavior challenges
  • Ability to assign and distribute tasks, review work for accuracy, and provide constructive feedback to ensure unit efficiency.
  • Ability to monitor entry/exit points and inspect facilities for unauthorized activity, hazards, or safety breaches.
  • Ability to act decisively during emergencies by performing CPR, rendering first aid, or administering Narcan when required.
  • Ability to review and maintain surveillance and body camera footage, ensuring all daily logs and incident reports are meticulously documented.
