About The Position

Performs duties essential to the enforcement of SRHS regulations. Enforcement of the criminal laws of the state of South Carolina including protecting SRHS property and personnel, regulating vehicular parking, maintaining fire and safety surveillance, conducting safety searches, and promoting optimal public relations with visitors and patients. Other assigned duties as necessary.

Requirements

  • High School Graduate or GED
  • 2 years Law Enforcement or 3 years armed healthcare security
  • Must have valid driver's license.
  • Must meet qualifications to become SLED certified in carrying a weapon.
  • Required to be interviewed and receive the approval from the Peer and Management boards

Nice To Haves

  • Graduate of a Certified Basic Police Academy, Military Police Academy, Detention Center Academy

Responsibilities

  • Demonstrate ample computer skills.
  • Complete a battery of written tests.
  • Communicate effectively in writing and by radio, telephone and in person to coworkers, employees, visitors and patients.
  • Adapt to new innovations, policies, and procedures, as they are introduced and capable of instructing others in new methods and procedures.
  • Effectively enforce SRHS regulations.
  • Effectively enforce the criminal laws for the state of South Carolina.
  • Work as a team member with peers, other departments, staff and administration.
  • Manual dexterity, good eye/hand coordination, and adequate vision/hearing needed in daily work.
  • Withstand many hours of standing, walking, stooping, bending, and sitting.
  • Run up and down stairs, walk long distances, and search for missing persons or evidence to apprehend subjects.
  • Respond calmly and efficiently in crisis situations.
  • Intervene in conflict situations - fights, quarrels, and domestic matters and use calming techniques to settle subjects.
  • Perform defensive and/or other hand-to-hand combat tactics to control hostile subjects, to include wrestling, holding, handcuffing unwilling subjects.
  • Physically restrain individuals who are combative, pushing, shoving, under the influence of behavior-altering drugs, and other violent disorders until help arrives.
  • Lift or move patients and equipment used.
  • Be proficient in the use of Pepper Spray, ASP Baton, Taser, Firearms and Handcuffs.
  • Have strong communications skills.
  • Other duties as assigned.
