About The Position

The Security Officer at the Saint Louis Art Museum is responsible for conducting scheduled patrols throughout the Museum buildings and exterior, including non-museum property surrounding the premises. This role involves guarding and protecting persons and property, inspecting buildings for safety hazards, and ensuring compliance with Museum policies. The officer will also monitor the surveillance system, provide excellent customer service, and assist other officers as needed. The position requires physical activity, including standing for long periods, kneeling, and lifting up to 20 lbs. Security officers are considered first responders and have the power to arrest and detain individuals on Museum property while on duty.

Requirements

  • Must be at least 21 years of age.
  • Possess a high school diploma or equivalent.
  • Must obtain and maintain a valid Security Officer License in the City of Saint Louis.
  • Ability to work a flexible schedule, including evenings, weekends, and holidays.
  • Knowledge of proper radio procedures, computer skills, alarm systems, and emergency procedures.
  • Must maintain a neat and well-groomed appearance.
  • Ability to provide clear oral and/or written reports.
  • Must complete CPR/AED certification.
  • Reliable and punctual attendance.

Nice To Haves

  • Some college coursework.
  • Prior experience as a security or law enforcement officer.

Responsibilities

  • Conduct scheduled patrols throughout the Museum buildings and exterior.
  • Guard and protect persons and property.
  • Inspect buildings for open doors, damage, safety hazards, and mechanical problems.
  • Report actions taken or observations gathered during patrols.
  • Ensure compliance with Museum policies and convey rules to the public and staff.
  • Use radio communication effectively.
  • Monitor the surveillance system and coordinate responses to alarms/incidents.
  • Provide customer service to the public and museum staff.
  • Assist other officers to minimize response time and maximize service efficiency.
  • Administer first aid and CPR as needed.
  • Notify 911 in emergencies and ensure safe evacuation during fire incidents.
  • Maintain the office dispatch book with up-to-date materials.
  • Work the garage ticket booth when necessary.
  • Be flexible to assist the team in various roles as needed.
