Requirements

  • High school degree or GED equivalent is required.
  • Associate's degree in law enforcement, criminal justice, security, or a related field preferred.
  • Minimum two years of experience in a customer service, military, security position and/or a similar role.
  • Experience in a healthcare setting preferred.
  • Experience in patrolling, incident report writing, defensive tactics, emergency response, lock/unlock procedures, door access, and CCTV camera operation.
  • Experience with Windows XP or newer as well as intermediate skills in Microsoft Office software applications.
  • Technical aptitude to work with Security Technology is preferred.
  • Strong sense of customer service and interpersonal skills to interact with patients, visitors, and employees.
  • Strong written and verbal skills.
  • Strong problem-solving skills are necessary.
  • Ability to read and communicate effectively in a pleasant, courteous, professional, and friendly manner.
  • Must have and maintain a valid driver's license and acceptable driving record in accordance with Mayo Clinic Policy.
  • Must obtain certification from the International Association for Healthcare Security and Safety (IAHSS) as a Healthcare Security Officer within 6 months.
  • Training certification in AVADE Workplace Violence Training, basic CPR and AED, required within 1 year.

Responsibilities

  • Provide a professional level of customer service and security presence.
  • Proactively patrol Mayo Clinic property and security sensitive areas.
  • Assist visitors, patients, and staff as needed and help prevent and deter fire, theft, vandalism, illegal entry, etc.
  • Utilize security vehicle on a regular or occasional basis.
  • Enforce Mayo policies and respond to complaints and service calls for wrongdoing.
  • Prepare incident reports/activity logs.
  • Work in the Security control centers.
  • Manage altercations and emergency crises in an effective and professional manner.
  • Operate and communicate on a two-way radio.
  • Exhibit good judgment, maturity, initiative, tact, and diplomacy when dealing with people in stressful situations.
  • Assist patients, volunteers, visitors, and staff with emergency evacuations.
  • Make effective decisions as an emergency first responder.
  • Work as a team member with other emergency responders, including law enforcement and fire/rescue personnel.
  • Work nights and weekends for security and protection assignments when required.
