About The Position

The Security Officer at Lake Charles Memorial Health System (LCMHS) is responsible for responding to, controlling, and overseeing calls for assistance and alarms, taking action to mitigate situations, and protecting people and property. The officer patrols, assesses, and secures LCMHS properties while providing escorts and education to internal customers. The role involves enforcing criminal ordinances and LCMHS policies, working with law enforcement and community partners, and carrying and using authorized security weapons.

Requirements

  • High school graduate or GED equivalent.
  • Previous security, law enforcement, or military experience preferred.
  • Basic computer skills.
  • Acceptable hearing and vision, able to differentiate the colors red, green, and yellow.
  • Must be at least 18 years old and have a valid driver's license and good driving record.
  • IAHSS Certified Healthcare Security Officer (CHSO) or equivalent certification is valued.
  • Ability to read, write, and speak intelligible English.
  • Strong quantitative, analytical, and organizational skills.
  • Ability to communicate orally and in written form.
  • Must be detail-oriented.
  • Requires emotional stability and maturity.
  • Must be adaptable to change, decisive, and demonstrate foresight.
  • Exhibits organizational and leadership ability.
  • Must be team-oriented with strong interpersonal skills.

Responsibilities

  • Responds to security emergencies, including calls for service, in-progress emergencies, and alarms.
  • Coordinates scheduled emergency drills.
  • Takes action and intervenes per procedure and protocols to mitigate situations and reduce injury, prevent property damage or loss.
  • Engages in dynamic, potentially violent encounters using empty-hand control techniques, handcuffs, and authorized security weapons according to policy.
  • Investigates and reports incidents, preparing written reports.
  • Responds to behavioral health emergencies, de-escalating situations and executing hands-on physical interventions under clinical direction.
  • Patrols and conducts surveillance of LCMHS facilities and properties.
  • Identifies, assesses, and addresses threats and risks to ensure safety and security.
  • Provides security escorts for patients, visitors, and employees.
  • Controls access to LCMHS facilities and properties.
  • Monitors critical building security systems such as cameras, alarms, and access control systems.
  • Maintains and properly operates equipment including radio, weapons, handcuffs, body-worn cameras, emergency vehicles, and personal equipment.
  • Enforces criminal ordinances and LCMHS health system policies.
  • Partners with law enforcement and issues citations for violations of administrative policies.
  • Serves as a department liaison to internal partners and community partners.
  • Provides education on security, personal safety, and workplace violence prevention.
