Security Officer Assistant — MPS (part-time 17.5 hours/week) The Security Officer patrols and inspects the Motion Picture Studio (MPS) buildings and surrounding areas to identify security risks, enforce university security policies, and respond to suspicious or criminal activity. They work on sets and in wardrobe. The security officer works closely with BYU Police, assists sworn officers upon request, responds to security-related calls for service, initiates emergency response coordination, and monitors electronic and physical security systems. Officers are assigned rotating shifts and are expected to maintain a high level of professionalism, situational awareness, and sound judgment during all operations.

  • Patrol and inspect MPS and its immediate vicinity for safety and security concerns.
  • Enforce university security policies and provide a visible security presence.
  • Identify suspicious or criminal behavior and coordinate with BYU Police for resolution.
  • Assist sworn officers upon request.
  • Respond to and assist with security-related calls for service.
  • Initiate emergency response coordination when necessary.
  • Monitor and operate electronic and physical security systems.
  • Assist in field training of new security officers.
  • Create reports for hazards and offer recommendations for procedural or physical improvements.
  • A firm commitment to the mission of BYU.
  • High school diploma or GED.
  • U.S. citizen.
  • Ability to supervise or provide leadership when needed.
  • Ability to maintain annual training requirements.
  • Valid Utah Driver License with no suspensions or revocations.
  • Ability to work in all weather conditions and assigned rotating shifts, including graveyards, weekends, and holidays.
  • Successful completion of a full background investigation.
  • No convictions for serious criminal, traffic, drug, or domestic violence violations.
  • Proficiency with radio communications, OC spray, handcuffs, tourniquet, first aid equipment, and required computer software.
  • Ability to meet and maintain department fitness standards, including mandatory annual testing.
  • Working knowledge of federal, state, and local criminal laws and procedures (search, seizure, citizen’s arrest, use of force).
  • Familiarity with MPS and surrounding areas.
  • Understanding of crime prevention theory and application.
  • Knowledge of university and BYU Security policies and procedures.
  • Ability to make sound, split-second decisions.
  • Professionalism under pressure, strong teamwork orientation, calm demeanor, tact, diplomacy, and sound judgment during conflicts or crises.
  • Prior security or law enforcement experience.
