About The Position

The Security Officer at Cooley Dickinson Hospital is responsible for ensuring the safety and security of the hospital premises during the third shift. This role involves patrolling the facility, responding to security incidents, and maintaining a secure environment for patients, staff, and visitors. The officer will work under the direction of the Senior Manager of Security Services and is expected to demonstrate competence in various security-related duties, including monitoring access points, responding to emergencies, and documenting incidents.

Requirements

  • High school diploma or equivalent.
  • 1 year of law enforcement or healthcare experience.
  • BLS Certification within 90 days of hire.
  • OC Certification within 3 months of hire.
  • Strong interpersonal skills and good judgment.
  • Basic computer skills and ability to follow verbal and written instructions.
  • Ability to lift 50 pounds and respond to emergencies physically.

Nice To Haves

  • Experience in a healthcare setting.
  • Completion of Handcuffing certification within 2 weeks of hire.
  • Completion of IAHSS basic certification within 90 days of hire.

Responsibilities

  • Respond to security and life safety issues as needed.
  • Conduct periodic tours of buildings and grounds, ensuring security of doors, windows, and gates.
  • Confront unauthorized persons and take appropriate action, including contacting police if necessary.
  • Utilize emergency fire equipment as needed and record any safety violations or equipment failures.
  • Check for unauthorized weapons or contraband and confiscate as required.
  • Maintain a 100% response rate for assistance calls, documenting details on daily shift reports.
  • Enforce parking policies and check vehicles for signs of theft or vandalism.
  • Monitor the condition of parking lots and sidewalks, especially in inclement weather.
  • Check exterior lights and report any malfunctions.
  • Complete all required paperwork and incident reports accurately by the end of the shift.
  • Participate in hospital emergency situations and provide crowd control when necessary.
  • Maintain confidentiality and adhere to hospital policies and procedures.
