About The Position

The Department of Emergency & Military Affairs (DEMA) is the headquarters for the Arizona National Guard, providing military forces for community, State, and Federal missions. The Division of Emergency Management coordinates emergency services to reduce disaster impacts, while the Division of Administrative Services manages human resources, finance, and legislative activities. The Security Officer 1 position is located at Papago Park Military Reservation (PPMR) in Phoenix, AZ, offering armed security services to protect against threats, including the use of deadly force when justified. The role involves conducting physical security activities, managing access control, and ensuring the safety of personnel and resources.

Requirements

  • Knowledge of general access control procedures and emergency response.
  • Ability to learn and apply search & seizure and use of force procedures.
  • Functional knowledge of personal computer operations in a network environment.
  • Ability to comprehend security, fire, and environmental alarm systems.
  • Understanding of Army regulations and DEMA directives.
  • Ability to interact effectively with personnel and civilians.

Nice To Haves

  • Possession of an Arizona (DPS) Guard Card.
  • Experience in Military Police or law enforcement.
  • Certification in Physical Security and Anti-terrorism Courses.

Responsibilities

  • Control entry and egress from the installation via designated access control points.
  • Conduct random inspections of vehicles and personnel entering the installation.
  • Provide armed security to ensure the safety of Mission Essential Vulnerable Areas (MEVAs).
  • Initiate detention or apprehension of trespassers or persons posing a risk.
  • Respond to dispatch calls and provide information to visitors.
  • Conduct security checks of installation perimeters and sensitive areas.
  • Monitor Electronic Security Systems (ESS) and Closed Circuit Television (CCTV).
  • Operate and maintain emergency response equipment.
  • Support tenant units during major incidents and provide security guard services.
  • Conduct visitor control operations and physical security inspections.
  • Serve as first responder to incidents and assist in evacuations during emergencies.
