About The Position

The University of Miami Department of Psychology has an exciting opportunity for a temporary, full time Security Officer 1 (summer worker) to work in Coral Gables, FL. The Summer Worker works only during the summer months; typically May-August. The Security Officer 1 patrols assigned property and grounds to ensure the safety of building occupants and safeguard institutional property. Additionally, the Security Officer 1 provides assistance to individuals that are on University grounds in the event of an emergency.

Requirements

  • High School Diploma or equivalent/relevant experience, certification or license
  • Minimum 1 year of relevant experience required
  • Learning Agility: Ability to learn new procedures, technologies, and protocols, and adapt to changing priorities and work demands.
  • Teamwork: Ability to work collaboratively with others and contribute to a team environment.
  • Technical Proficiency: Skilled in using office software, technology, and relevant computer applications.
  • Communication: Strong and clear written and verbal communication skills for interacting with colleagues and stakeholders.
  • Any relevant education, certifications and/or work experience may be considered.

Responsibilities

  • Notifies local police department when backup is necessary.
  • Inspects building, equipment, and access points.
  • Permits entry of allowed personnel after verifying identity.
  • Informs violators of policy and procedures and restrains trespassers.
  • Controls traffic by directing drivers.
  • Checks surveillance cameras periodically to identify disruptions or unlawful acts.
  • Submits reports of surveillance activity and unusual occurrences.
  • Secures all exits, doors, and windows after end of operations.
  • Investigates people for suspicious activity or possessions.
  • Adheres to University and unit-level policies and procedures and safeguards University assets.
