About The Position

Performs a variety of duties to provide assistance and information to all patients, visitors and staff. Requirements

  • High School diploma or equivalent.
  • Valid Driver’s License – Must be maintained during employment period.
  • Obtain certification in Basic Life Support within 30 days of hire date.
  • Successfully pass criminal background check.
  • Ability to perform effectively under often stressful situations.
  • Good decision making skills.
  • Ability to organize and maintain document controls.
  • Demonstrates writing skills.
  • Must be a team player and contributor.
  • Ability to maintain confidentiality.
  • Ability to sit, stand and walk for the entire shift and/or double shift.
  • Ability to lift, push or pull 80 pounds.
  • Ability to tolerate adverse environmental conditions for entire shift and/or double shift.
  • Evaluation by Employee Health required upon hire or transfer to ensure medical fitness. Any significant changes in health-status must be reported.

Nice To Haves

  • Security/Safety related certification/education.
  • One (1) year of experience in Security field.
  • Three (3) years of experience in Healthcare Security.

Responsibilities

  • Maintains consistent visibility and presence at assigned locations to provide an information and directional resource for all patients, visitors, and staff distributing accurate information to all who request such.
  • Responds to all patient, visitor and staff requests for information/assistance in a caring, courteous manner.
  • Provides physical assistance, wheelchair assistance, transport services, escort services and room access patients, visitors and staff accessing WVUH facilities.
  • Monitors and maintains traffic flow in WVUH parking areas and roadways by assisting disabled vehicles, issuing parking permits and warning violations.
  • Protects people and property by assisting in the prevention of accidents, theft and vandalism, in accordance with WVUH and department policies and procedures, as monitored by supervision.
  • Maintains consistent presence and visibility by performing routine building rounds, building door unlocks, exterior building and parking lot patrol.
  • Makes recommendations to management, staff, visitors and patients to improve security and prevent accidents and crime.
  • Reports suspicious situations, circumstances, incidents and persons.
  • Responds and provides assistance to patients, visitors and staff during fire and disaster drills, animal control issues, transportation of valuables, and lost/found issues.
  • Provides written documentation of activities, incidents, premises safety, accidents, theft, vandalism and other data requested by supervision in a factual, objective and legible manner.
  • Responds to and provides assistance to patients, visitors and staff during emergency situations such as; assaults, domestic disputes, fire, vandalism, bomb threats, theft, vehicle accidents, disasters, etc.
  • Performs patient restraint as directed by clinical staff, and is capable of physical intervention when appropriate.
  • Operates Hospital-owned vehicles in a safe and responsible manner, 100% of the time.
  • Ensures safety and proper operating condition of vehicles by performing vehicle inspections, as outlined by departmental policy.
  • Incident reporting, routine building rounds, incident investigation, crowd control, restraining patients (as instructed by clinical staff), disaster response, domestic disputes, parking enforcement, consistent presence and visibility, helicopter assignments, media issues (as instructed by marketing), victim assistance, engages in traffic direction, policy enforcement, investigation of alarms, duress, etc., physical intervention, tire changing, battery jumps, parking rounds, effective radio communication, escorts patients/visitors/staff, accurate directions to customers, loss prevention, vehicle assists, transport equipment/staff/visitors/patients, and responses to all alarms and codes.
