The Security Guard position supports an organizational culture for Service Excellence and practices the Service Excellence Standards to all customer groups. The employee must maintain a Texas Private Security Level II License.

Requirements

  • U.S. citizen of good character with no Felony or Class A convictions (including probation or deferred adjudication) no Class B convictions (including probation or deferred adjudication) in the past 10 years
  • High School Diploma or GED required
  • Possess a valid Texas drivers license with a good driving record
  • Required to hold (or be eligible for) either a valid State of Texas Peace Officers License or a valid Commissioned Private Security Guard License issued by the Texas Commission on Private Security (TCPS). Must remain compliant with TPCS renewal regulations.
  • Handle with care class required and maintained yearly.
  • Ability to evaluate and interpret information and make independent decisions.
  • Must be able to work under stressful conditions and remain calm in various environments.
  • Ability to communicate with staff, physicians, patients, families, vendors, visitors, and others.
  • Ability to read, write, and converse in English at a high school graduate level.
  • Ability to understand laws and regulations.
  • Ability to perform lifting (minimum of 50 pounds,) bending, grasping, fine hand/eye coordination, pushing and pulling, standing and/or sitting for prolonged periods.
  • Ability to tolerate high noise levels, extreme temperatures, and/or weather conditions for prolonged periods.
  • Ability to understand and practice safety requirements in work involving exposure to hazardous chemicals, biological materials, dangerous equipment.
  • Ability to respond to pager, radio, telephone, and other auditory stimulation.
  • Ability to discriminate color.
  • Ability to perform basic math functions and measurements.
  • Must have normal hearing and be able to follow written and verbal instructions

Nice To Haves

  • Experience in arrest, search and seizure, interviewing techniques and interrogation preferred

Responsibilities

  • Responds to requests by radio, pager, telephone, or other methods of communication.
  • Responds to emergency calls for assistance.
  • Responds to Panic Alarms within the facility and/or Pavilion.
  • Conducts periodic inspection tours based on pre-determined priorities and conditions.
  • Monitors CCTV security system, and must become proficient in the use of same, and develop the ability to trouble shoot if required.
  • Maintains logs of inspections as required.
  • Completes incident reports as required on any Criminal and/or Civil Situations.
  • Participates in fire drills and other Life Safety awareness programs and documents as required.
  • Participates in and supports a process to improve performance of services.
  • Responds to requests from the Pavilion to help with Mental Health Situations.
  • Must attend Verbal De-Escalation Training, and deals with Mental Health patients. This training would apply initially and annually thereafter.
  • Required to attend and be proficient at Handle With Care Training and deals with Mental Health patients. This training would apply initially and annually thereafter.
  • Serves subpoena’s as required.
  • Appear in Court as needed to provide testimony
  • Provide escorts to Law Enforcement Agencies, TDCJ, and Mental Health as required.
  • Assist Child Protective Services as required.
  • Register and Log Sex Offenders as necessary.
  • Issue and log Criminal Trespass Warnings as they arise.
  • Required to do lockups and unlocks of doors daily throughout the facility to include the Pavilion, Wound Care, and J O Wyatt (if assigned).
  • Enforce NWTHS Parking Policy to include Written Citations
  • Enforce NWTHS Non-Smoking Policy to include Written Citations
  • Duties not otherwise stipulated as assigned by the Director of Security
