About The Position

The Judicial Branch Security Equipment Specialist oversees, accounts for, handles, disseminates, and records all department equipment and security gear for the Judicial Branch Security Department (JBSD). Additionally, this position is responsible for all equipment inventories, management of security equipment purchase orders, and updates throughout the year on critical equipment. This position will also manage and track all security improvement projects and work orders. Requirements

  • High School Diploma or GED
  • One (1) year of security-related experience within a corporate security or public sector environment.
  • OR Combined education and experience qualifications: An equivalent combination of post-secondary education and job-related experience may substitute on a year-for-year basis
  • Incumbent must obtain a State-wide Court Security Officer certification and maintain that certification annually
  • Incumbent must obtain certification as a Basic Life Safety, and CPR/AED provider within six months of hire
  • Incumbent must obtain certification in defensive weapons tactics within six months of hire
  • Incumbent must obtain a Conducted Electrical Weapons (CEW) TASER certification with six months of hire
  • Applicants must have or obtain a valid Arizona Driver License by time of hire
  • Knowledge of: Principles, practices, and techniques used in judicial security, including security awareness.
  • State laws, statutes, department post, general orders, court orders, policies, and procedures, including rights of citizens, search and seizure rules, and rules of evidence.
  • Skill in: Establishing and maintaining effective working relationships.
  • Preparing clear and concise records, reports, correspondence, and other written materials.
  • Effective application of non-violent crisis intervention skills and techniques.
  • Exercising sound judgment within general policy guidelines.
  • Database utilization such as MS Excel or equivalent.
  • Must be proficient in Microsoft Office programs such as MS Word, Excel, PowerPoint and MS Teams.
  • Oral and written communication.
  • Ability to: Read, understand, interpret, explain, and strictly apply applicable laws, ordinances, policies, court orders, and regulations.
  • Monitor and evaluate closed circuit video security systems, as well as electronic fire and security alarm systems.
  • Appropriately use emergency and defensive tactics, techniques, skills, and defensive weapons to achieve the effective de-escalation and control of situations.

Nice To Haves

  • Three years of law enforcement, military, detention or corrections experience.
  • Sound tactical knowledge pertaining to critical or emergency incidents such as (but not limited to), active shooter, bomb threats, judicial threat, personal protection, and detail advanced reporting.
  • Ability to multi-task, work independently and familiar with databases.

Responsibilities

  • Maintains inventory records for all equipment (uniforms, duty gear, and safety equipment) for the Judicial Branch Security Department, ensuring operational readiness and compliance
  • Schedules and tracks routine maintenance for all critical equipment including, but not limited to x-ray machines, magnetometers, CEW TASERs, handheld radios, hand-held magnetometers and County vehicles
  • Monitors routine maintenance, statutorily required annual servicing, and emergency repairs for approximately 30 X-ray machines.
  • Works with outside vendors for ordering, delivery and equipment set up including but not limited to uniforms, officer equipment, X-Ray Machines, post equipment, and security projects
  • Submits work orders and follows up with contractors in regard to supplies needed and/or delivery and setup
  • Manages multiple JBSD Storage Spaces and ensures all critical equipment is accessible and properly controlled.
  • Conducts inspections of departmental vehicles and maintains detailed maintenance records, ensuring safe operation, minimizing downtime, and maintaining regulatory compliance.
  • Responds to various locations throughout the county where equipment may need to be assessed for issues, upgrades or maintenance and perform work or checks accordingly.
  • Interacts with all levels of the organization to identify equipment needs
  • Conducts needs analyses and recommend equipment upgrades or other appropriate intervention that addresses the need
  • Works cooperatively with all levels of employees within the Judicial Branch and other outside agencies
  • Complete training to ensure utilization of the Excel database and tracking tools utilized by JBSD
  • Complete equipment training by vendors in the use of x-ray machine (Smith Detection), magnetometer and TASER
  • May perform JBSD Line Officer duties on as needed basis for coverage
