About The Position

The Security Communication Specialist receives information from various sources for services, including telephone calls, radio calls, and information sent via monitoring equipment. The role involves dispatching appropriate personnel to incidents, which may include Security, Law Enforcement, and other emergency services for both emergent and non-emergent calls. The specialist must react calmly to all situations and assure customers that their requests will be handled expeditiously and professionally. Additionally, the specialist ensures that all monitoring equipment is in working order and reports deficiencies for repairs. They monitor emergent equipment and send appropriate staff to handle situations effectively and document occurrences. The position requires projecting a positive image for Atrium Health and ensuring that all dispatched requests and contacts with patients, the public, physicians, and other hospital staff are carried out promptly and courteously.

Requirements

  • High School Diploma or GED required.
  • 1 Year Dispatch Center experience preferred.
  • APCO Certification preferred.
  • Ability to speak in a clear and concise manner.
  • Ability to function well in high-stress situations with limited assistance.
  • Must be able to make rapid, appropriate decisions to ensure safety.

Nice To Haves

  • Experience in a high-stress environment.
  • Familiarity with alarm monitoring systems.

Responsibilities

  • Adhere to general hospital standards to promote a cooperative work environment.
  • Follow hospital and departmental policies and procedures.
  • Dispatch Security personnel to the scene as requested by customers.
  • Document requests for service and events in the Security Communications database.
  • Confirm response to the scene and appropriate action taken.
  • Receive calls via Radio Channels or by Phone and follow associated protocols and checklists.
  • Transmit accurate information to personnel as needed.
  • Prioritize emergency calls appropriately.
  • Monitor equipment panel abnormalities and ensure prompt response to incidents.
  • Understand the purpose and functions of monitor panels.
  • Ensure systems are returned to normal working order.
  • Monitor multiple alarm systems and dispatch appropriate agencies.
