About The Position

The successful candidate will be a member of the management team supervising the work of the Lieutenant, Sergeant, and all full-time and part-time Security Officers. The incumbent understands the full scope of Safety & Security operations, effectively manages a group of Safety and Security Supervisors and Officers and provides a safe and secure environment for Husson University students, staff, faculty, and visitors.

Requirements

  • High school education or equivalent required; Bachelor's degree required. At least 2 years of both supervisory experience and security, military, or law enforcement experience is required.
  • Demonstrate decisive confident leadership abilities.
  • Must have attention to detail and respond promptly and professionally when necessary.
  • Be able to prioritize, organize, and follow up when needed.
  • Have a clear command of the English language and be able to complete computer-generated reports.
  • Be a clear thinker, display the ability to remain calm, and show good judgment when resolving problems.
  • Follow directions thoroughly, speak and interact with students, staff and visitors as necessary.
  • Work cohesively with co-workers as part of a team.
  • Work with minimal supervision.
  • Maintain confidentiality of departmental and University information.
  • Safely operate motorized vehicles, bicycles, and other department-owned equipment.
  • Must possess a valid license to operate a motor vehicle in the state of Maine.
  • Must be certified or have the ability to be certified in First Aid, CPR/AED, and other equipment as assigned.

Responsibilities

  • Oversees assigned operational components of the Department and supervises the Lieutenant, Sergeant, as well as all full-time and part-time Security Officers.
  • Monitor and operate a two-way radio utilizing proper radio protocol to maintain FCC & NIMS compliance.
  • Must have appropriate report-writing skills, as well as the ability to utilize electronic reporting systems.
  • Facilitates communication with officers, directing them to respond to requests for service, and provides pertinent information necessary to maintain a safe and secure environment for students, faculty, staff, and visitors to Husson University.
  • Responsible for the comfort, safety, and security of the students, faculty, staff, and visitors to Husson University.
  • Maintains a safe environment and minimizes the potential for loss or damage of all property controlled by Husson University by conducting high visibility patrols on foot and in University-owned vehicles, monitoring CCTV equipment, and monitoring two-way radio communications.
  • Provides a wide variety of services to our campus community and is expected to proactively seek opportunities to provide excellent customer service.
  • Assist in the development of, and enforces Husson University rules and regulations, the Community Conduct Code, and coordinates with law enforcement in enforcing state statutes within campus grounds.
  • Recognizes potential safety concerns and takes measures to mitigate these concerns.
  • Coordinates officer responses to disturbances and mitigates disruptive conduct, respond to emergencies as needed, and coordinates with all local, county, and state agencies as necessary to maintain the safety of Husson University.
  • Coordinates and participates in daily assignments which include scheduling staff, monitoring performance, handling complex situations or cases, and/or performing related duties.
  • Conducts performance evaluations and ensures the Sergeant and Lieutenant are as well.
  • Serve as the system administrator of the Department's Incident Based Reporting System, and AppArmor/RAVE Emergency Notification System.
  • Ability to activate the Emergency Notification System upon orders from senior university administrators to include the University President, University Provost, University Vice President of Administration, Vice President of Student Experiences or Director of Campus Safety and Security.
  • Assist as needed in the development of policies, procedures and emergency planning.
  • Act as Community Resource Officer and liaison with Residential Life staff.
  • Respond to accidents and medical emergencies and provide First Aid and CPR.
  • Also performs all duties of a Security Officer.
  • Work a full-time schedule, evenings, or overnights, including weekends and holidays as necessary.
