About The Position

The Security Assistant position at the Hot Springs, South Dakota VA Health Care System is primarily responsible for monitoring physical security equipment and systems. This role involves responding to alarms, managing access permissions, and coordinating emergency communications to ensure the safety and security of the facility and its occupants.

Requirements

• U.S. citizenship is required.
• One year of specialized experience equivalent to GS-04 level in federal service, or four years of education above high school, or a combination of education and experience.
• Experience with computer systems, data entry, and report preparation.
• Strong communication and interpersonal skills.

Nice To Haves

• Experience in a law enforcement or security environment.
• Familiarity with emergency response protocols.
• Knowledge of the National Crime Information Computer (NCIC) system.

Responsibilities

• Monitor and respond to alarms and security systems.
• Trace access patterns and manage user permissions for security systems.
• Dispatch law enforcement or other personnel as needed during emergencies.
• Maintain records of radio/alarm activity and prepare reports.
• Issue and retrieve government-issued keys and identification cards.
• Monitor and direct responses to emergency communications and coordinate with law enforcement.
• Perform system checks and troubleshoot equipment in the dispatch center.
• Enter, update, and retrieve information from various computer systems and databases.
