The Security Assistant position at the Department of Veterans Affairs serves as a critical role within the Police Service Operations Dispatch Center.   • Monitor and respond to alarms and security systems.
  • Trace access patterns and manage user permissions for security systems.
  • Dispatch law enforcement or other personnel as needed during incidents.
  • Maintain radio and alarm activity logs, including dates, times, and results of communications.
  • Prepare reports related to security incidents and operations.
  • Issue and retrieve government-issued keys and identification cards.
  • Conduct system checks and troubleshoot equipment issues in the dispatch center.
  • Coordinate with law enforcement and emergency services during incidents.
  • Operate various communication equipment and computer systems for emergency operations.
  • One year of specialized experience equivalent to the GS-05 grade level in federal service.
  • Experience in monitoring police and emergency incidents and taking appropriate actions.
  • Familiarity with operating security surveillance systems and communication systems.
  • Ability to compile and prepare reports related to security operations.
  • Experience with the Indiana Data & Communications System.
  • Knowledge of the National Crime Information Center (NCIC) operations.
  • Familiarity with time lapse digital video recorders and related peripherals.
