About The Position

The Security and Safety Officer at Dartmouth Health is responsible for ensuring the safety and security of patients, visitors, and staff within the hospital and clinic premises. This role involves conducting preventative patrols, responding to emergencies, and maintaining a secure environment by monitoring for suspicious activities and potential hazards. The officer will also provide leadership during crisis situations and collaborate with various departments to ensure safety protocols are followed.

Requirements

  • Associate's degree or equivalent work experience required.
  • 2-3 years of experience in healthcare, security, military, law enforcement, corrections, or Fire/EMS preferred.
  • Ability to maintain calm composure under stressful conditions.
  • Ability to provide leadership and direction under stressful situations.
  • Effective people skills in person and on the phone.
  • Ability to prepare clear, concise reports and routine correspondence.
  • Ability to gather facts and evidence.
  • Ability to deescalate and physically interact as necessary to manage disruptive behavior.
  • Ability to lift patients and walk at a rapid pace, as well as stand for extended periods.

Responsibilities

  • Conduct preventative security and safety patrols throughout buildings and grounds.
  • Provide security for hospital and clinic patients, visitors, and staff.
  • Safeguard property by responding to all requests and emergency codes.
  • Provide leadership and direction to staff in crisis situations.
  • Maintain alertness for unusual and abnormal conditions or suspicious activities.
  • Inspect equipment such as radios, fire extinguishers, panic alarms, AED units, and emergency phones for faulty operation.
  • Report potential fire or safety hazards.
  • Participate in Safety / Emergency Management / Security drills and tests.
  • Write detailed, accurate, and objective Incident Reports and Daily Activity Logs.
  • Conduct follow-up investigations as needed.
  • Direct and regulate vehicular traffic as necessary.
  • Assist in maintaining traffic control during snow removal operations.
  • Keep emergency vehicle lanes clear at all times.
  • Maintain radio communication with the Switchboard at all times.
  • Assist with transporting deceased persons to the Morgue and releasing to the appropriate organization.
  • Interact with law enforcement officers and assist as needed.
  • Consult with the Security Supervisor and Director of Safety regarding activities, needs, and problems.
