About The Position

Cleveland-Cliffs, Butler Works has an opportunity for a Section Manager role in our Hot Mill Department. The Section Manager will be responsible for taking lead roles in managing product flow, equipment operations and employee performance so that the products conform to customer requirements and productivity meets business needs. The ideal candidate will have a high level of organization, and ability to communicate effectively with all levels of the organization. Requirements

  • 3+ years’ of supervisory experience in a heavy manufacturing environment.
  • Strong analytical skills and ability to troubleshoot and solve problems.
  • Excellent verbal and written interpersonal and communication skills.
  • Strong mechanical aptitude with experience in maintenance and mobile equipment repair.
  • Solid computer skills including Microsoft Office and basic computer applications.

Nice To Haves

  • Experience working in union environment.
  • Bachelor’s degree or equivalent experience.

Responsibilities

  • Supervises and monitors job performance of Shift Managers versus departmental goals.
  • Assist in development of Hot Mill goals and objectives.
  • Coordinates the safety activities in the Hot Mill.
  • Manages disposition of all unsafe acts, unsafe conditions, all safety observations and contacts for salary and hourly personnel.
  • Develop safety goals and objectives for Shift Managers.
  • Implements and manages process control applications in the operating sections.
  • Continually identifies and eliminates waste through process control.
  • Focuses on improving yields, eliminating retreats and recharges, and efficiently uses supplies, materials and people’s time.
  • Manages disposition of all quality and QSOP infractions, all quality observations and contacts for salary and hourly personnel.
  • Ensures product flows consistently and smoothly through the equipment to ensure best quality for our customers.
  • Understands importance of minimizing delay time and how to adequately handle the product during delays.
  • Other duties as assigned.
