The Advanced Airframes Department within Raytheon Hardware Engineering provides Mechanical Engineering support to develop solutions for products across the Raytheon portfolio. Our core mechanical engineering responsibilities include requirements/conceptual development, design, integration, and test support. We partner with several Mechanical Product Team departments to provide full system solutions. The Advanced Airframes Department is seeking a dynamic and motivated Mechanical Engineering Section Leader to join our team on-site in Tucson, Arizona. In addition to program assignments, this leadership role encompasses a range of responsibilities aimed at fostering team success and individual growth. You will focus on career and performance development, mentoring, training, process and tool enhancement, resource allocation, and promoting adherence to established procedures and best practices. Acting as a key liaison to program teams, the Section Leader will play a pivotal role in ensuring program success by meeting technical, cost, and schedule objectives. Additional responsibilities include overseeing team member assignments, performance evaluations, and recognition efforts, as well as contributing to bidding and proposal activities.

Requirements

  • Typically requires a degree in Science, Technology, Engineering or Mathematics (STEM) and a minimum of 8 years of prior relevant experience
  • Experience in mechanical engineering and/or airframe design
  • Experience with technical leadership and/or project management.
  • Experience leading teams, and/or managing resources (cost, people, and schedule), and/or delegating tasks and holding others accountable.
  • Active and transferable U.S. government issued security clearance is required prior to the start date.
  • U.S. citizenship is required as only U.S. citizens are eligible for a security clearance.

Nice To Haves

  • Advanced degree in Science, Technology, Engineering, or Mathematics (STEM) and a minimum of 10 years of relevant experience in hardware design, development, and/or test of defense-related components or systems.
  • Strong communication and interpersonal skills.
  • Ability to manage multiple priorities and work effectively in a fast-paced environment.
  • Mechanical system knowledge to assure full development of mechanical requirements and dissemination and flow down to subcomponent levels.
  • Ability to perform mechanical hardware trade studies evaluating different mechanical designs and estimating design and production cost and schedule.
  • Project engineering skills and experience applying Earned Value Management System processes and principles and experience as a Control Account Manager.
  • Experience with the proposal capture process (development of compliant basis of estimates and ROMs).
  • Demonstrated ability to develop and lead collaborative efforts with other technical disciplines including mechanical, electrical, and systems.
  • Supplier collaboration experience and oversight generating specifications and statements of work (SOW).
  • Working knowledge or experience across the full design lifecyle including development, integration and production support.
  • Advocate for process improvement (e.g., CMMI, CORE, etc.), team builder, and ability to build strong relationships and effectively partner with internal and external resources.
  • Experience with DoD customers and/or associated contractor executives and technical leadership.
  • Active Secret or Top Secret Clearance (Department of Defense)

Responsibilities

  • Provide functional and technical leadership for a team of approximately 15 engineers, closely supporting their performance objectives and career development aspirations.
  • The Section Leader should be a highly motivated self-starter, demonstrating strong interpersonal, written, and verbal communication skills, while cultivating positive relationships with both functional and program leadership.
  • Oversee and maintain team capabilities to ensure programs are effectively staffed with the necessary expertise.
  • Play an active role in performance management, including appraisals, compensation planning, manpower allocation, career coaching, mentoring, and ensuring compliance with company policies.
  • Provide technical oversight and guidance to employees, monitor program execution, and offer technical expertise in support of program initiatives and proposal development.
  • Act as the primary liaison between programs and team members, addressing job assignments, performance impacts, and employee recognition.
  • Promote a collaborative, innovative work environment that drives team success and fosters professional growth.
