The Department of Pediatrics at the University of Colorado Anschutz Medical Campus is one of the nation’s premier academic pediatric programs. Its clinical and educational programs are consistently rated among the top ten nationally by US News and World Report. The Department is also a leader among Child Health research programs, ranking second in the nation among National Institutes of Health funded Pediatric Departments with over $66 million in active NIH awards. The Department is seeking qualified candidates for Head of the Section of Rheumatology at the University of Colorado School of Medicine and Chair of Rheumatology at Children’s Hospital Colorado. The Section of Rheumatology has an energetic and diverse faculty with a strong presence in clinical services, research, and undergraduate and graduate medical education. The Section is composed of fifteen physician and APP faculty, with a strong fellowship cohort and dedicated support staff in the Section providing services at the Anschutz Medical Campus as well as two regional hospitals and several outpatient clinical centers. We are looking for an inspirational leader with a vision towards advancing the mission of the Section as a premier program for Pediatric Rheumatology clinical care, research, and education. The Section Head will be responsible for ongoing program development, overseeing clinical practice programs, enhancing the multi-disciplinary clinical and research programs, overseeing the educational mission and programs, and fostering strong, collaborative relationships with internal and external stakeholders.

  • Oversees the programmatic and financial operations of the Section to ensure financial and human resources are available to support research, clinical care, educational, and advocacy/policy activities.
  • Develops and maintains innovative clinical, educational and research programs to enhance the local standing and national reputation of the Section.
  • Supervises the Section’s educational and clinical training programs, inclusive of residents, medical students, fellows, and post-doctoral researchers.
  • Supports faculty recruitment and the infrastructure for faculty development.
  • Builds and maintains partnerships with affiliate institutions and community organizations locally, nationally, and internationally.
  • Facilitates collaboration among faculty members to expand research funding and diversify research funding sources.
  • Establishes strong metrics and outcomes for clinical and academic performance.
  • Provides leadership and support for Section, Department, and University professional engagement and inclusion initiatives and programs.
  • Doctor of Medicine (MD/DO)
  • Board certification in Pediatric Rheumatology
  • Licensed or able to obtain licensure in the State of Colorado.
  • Seven (7) years of experience in a multi-disciplinary academic Rheumatology program (Associate Professor)
  • 9-10 years of experience in a multi-disciplinary academic Rheumatology program (Professor)
  • Eligibility for appointment at the rank of Associate Professor or Professor
  • Independent care provider who is highly skilled in the management of Rheumatology services for pediatric patients
  • Experience working with diverse patient populations
  • Experience with and commitment to faculty career development through mentoring
  • Must successfully pass a drug test through Children’s Hospital Colorado
  • Must be willing and able to pass a national criminal background check
  • Experience in pediatrics program development, strong clinical skills, significant accomplishments in research, proven administrative and leadership abilities, and a strong commitment to education.
  • Experience building constructive relationships and ensuring cohesiveness among various entities, programs, and groups.
  • Experience working and leading within an academic institution.
  • Experience with strategic planning and implementation.

  • Ability to balance the priorities of the Section with those of the Department, Hospital, and other partners to ensure the overall goals of all entities are achieved.
  • Strong understanding of the breadth of Rheumatology practices in health and disease.
