Dartmouth Health, Dartmouth Cancer Center (DCC), and Dartmouth Geisel School of Medicine announce a national search for the Section Chief of Hematology and Hematologic Malignancy. The new Section Chief will enrich the longstanding and distinguished reputation of the Division while leveraging the inherent synergies within DCC and Dartmouth Health. The next Section Chief will be a nationally prominent physician scientist with a history of research funding and the experience and skills to lead the Section in an era when diagnostic and therapeutic possibilities in malignant disease have never been more promising. They will provide strategic vision and leadership for the growth and expansion of clinical, academic, and administrative activities of the Section. The successful candidate will further enhance an environment that has a strong sense of community and collaboration, with over 256 active and ongoing research projects, led by 145 Cancer Center members, and supported by more than $68M in grant funding annually from federal and other sources. The ideal candidate will partner with DCC's senior leadership in strategic pursuit of the next level of excellence among elite cancer centers in the country and work to execute the Cancer Center's strategic goals. Development of a diverse workforce is a priority, and the new Section Chief will lead the recruitment of world-class translational clinician scientists. Leadership and oversight for translational science, clinical research, and clinical operations of the Cancer Center, including the setting of aspirational goals, developing practical pathways to achievement, and meeting clinical and academic milestones are key responsibilities for the new Section Chief. Importantly, the Cancer Center is a leader in a regional care network serving patients from five states across northern New England, and they will represent the Cancer Center in local, statewide, and regional collaborations. As Section Chief, the successful candidate will serve as the chief academic and administrative officer for the Section of Hematology and Hematologic Malignancy. They will ensure that research, education, clinical operations, and community outreach are aligned to support a demanding and high-quality academic practice. This includes ongoing commitment to lead growth of programs in a complex academic environment, ensuring that the academic and clinical activities of DCC bring increasing value to its many stakeholders and distinction to Dartmouth Health nationally and internationally. The Section Chief will identify and promote synergies within the Department of Medicine, DCC, the Geisel School of Medicine, and Dartmouth Health to further shared goals and support initiatives whenever possible. A can-do outlook and optimistic perspective on innovation will be essential for success in this group of institutions committed to ongoing improvement. The ideal candidate is a dynamic leader with demonstrated outstanding academic, clinical and leadership skills. The Section Chief will have high emotional intelligence and be a consensus-oriented individual who displays “respectful courage” and is highly influential in their ability to encourage people forward. A highly collaborative style is essential in developing and maintaining physician relations that build on their key roles as both partners and customers. They will be seen as a champion for diversity, equity, and inclusion in all areas of the institution. Indeed, the success of the Section Chief will be measured in part by success in recruiting, developing, and promoting women and underrepresented minorities.
