About The Position

Under general direction, performs a variety of complex secretarial and general accounting duties requiring substantial independent judgment.

Requirements

  • High school graduation or other equivalent (i.e., GED, college, technical, trade school transcript, foreign equivalency, etc)
  • Three (3) years of secretarial/clerical
  • Verified keyboarding/ typing score of 45 words per minute
  • Knowledge of secretarial practices, office machines, and record-keeping/accounting.
  • Knowledge of school district operations in relation to division/department operations.
  • Ability to promote public relations and to deal tactfully and diplomatically with people.
  • Ability to plan, organize, and set priorities on work and to work independently.
  • Ability to interpret, explain, and apply written and oral instructions, procedures and regulations.
  • Ability to keep information confidential and maintain an ethical attitude.
  • Ability to do editorial checking for spelling, punctuation, and grammar.
  • Ability to work under pressure, meet short deadlines, and shift suddenly to new tasks when priorities change.
  • Ability to handle letters and reports for conformance with given principles of style.
  • Ability to concentrate on accuracy of details.
  • Ability to prepare complex reports on own initiative or as directed.
  • Ability to work flexible hours or shifts.
  • Ability to recognize and report hazards and apply safe work methods.
  • Judgment as to when to act independently and when to refer situations to supervisor.

  • Verified dictation score of 80 words per minute.
  • Possess physical and mental stamina commensurate with the responsibilities of the position.
  • Possess personal characteristics, including but not limited to poise, perspective, integrity, flexibility, and personal appearance necessary for success in the Elko County School District.

Responsibilities

  • Plans, organizes, and sets priorities on work and works independently.
  • Interprets, explains, and applies written and oral instructions, procedures, and regulations.
  • Obtains and relays information from visitors on their needs and when necessary refers to appropriate administrative staff.
  • Prepares board items, travel arrangements and travel reimbursements.
  • Maintains calendar and schedules appointments, meetings, and conferences.
  • Composes, prepares and edits confidential correspondence and complex reports.
  • Assists in the preparation of the department budget and in the preparation of special program budgets.
  • Coordinates work of several others in terms of needs of particular tasks.
  • Conforms to safety standards as prescribed
  • Performs other tasks related to the position as assigned.
