About The Position

The Secretary in the Emergency Department provides clerical support to the department, performing general clerical and receptionist duties. This role involves a variety of tasks including managing correspondence, maintaining files, and handling phone communications. The Secretary is also responsible for scheduling patients and assisting with departmental projects under general supervision.

Requirements

  • Completion of or in pursuit of high school diploma or GED.
  • Specialty certifications as required per department: Cheyenne Regional AHA RQI within 14 calendar days of start date.

Responsibilities

  • Performs clerical tasks required in preparation of routine correspondence and reports.
  • Assists with projects under general supervision.
  • Handles incoming and outgoing mail.
  • Maintains files and record systems.
  • Performs basic computer applications including word processing and spreadsheets.
  • May assist to maintain Kronos for the department and staff scheduling.
  • Manages the multi-line phone system.
  • Answers all incoming calls and forwards them to the appropriate person.
  • Schedules patients via phone or in person.
  • Assists with scheduling follow-up appointments and rescheduling cancelled appointments.
  • Completes confirmation calls for upcoming appointments for new patients.
  • Resolves items in the work queue daily; scans outside records to medical chart; maintains old medical records.
  • Maintains the physician call-schedule and records arrival times of surgeons and other departments for emergencies.
  • Scans all hard copy patient records into EPIC media when applicable.
