About The Position

The Secondary Special Education Teacher at Woonsocket High School is responsible for providing tailored learning activities to students with special needs. This role involves collaboration with other educators and professionals to develop and implement individualized education programs (IEPs) that meet state regulations and support the academic and social growth of students.

Requirements

  • RIDE Certification in 9-12 Special Education required.
  • RIDE ESL Certification in ESL preferred.
  • RIDE Certification in 9-12 Math preferred.

Responsibilities

  • Provide learning activities appropriate to the levels of all children.
  • Work with a special education teacher in a co-teaching model.
  • Provide supervision and guidance to a teacher assistant assigned to the class.
  • Confer with other teachers about appropriate follow-up programming for students.
  • Meet with parents to disclose individual student progress.
  • Collaborate with professionals, including related service providers and counselors, to meet students' needs.
  • Attend meetings regarding individual students and programming issues.
  • Prepare individualized education programs (IEPs) suited to each child's needs.
  • Establish educational goals and objectives for each student on an IEP.
  • Evaluate pupils' academic and social growth and maintain appropriate records.
  • Identify pupils' needs and cooperate with other staff members in assessing and helping solve problems.
  • Work closely with educational and service agencies in the community for necessary referrals.
  • Provide support and counseling to parents and/or guardians as needed.
  • Select and requisition instructional materials and supplies.
  • Assume other related duties as assigned.
