Secondary Math Teacher (Fort Worth, TX): Teach courses pertaining to mathematical concepts, statistics, and to the application of standardized mathematical techniques in solving problems. Prepare high school students for college-level math. Actively instruct students, create lesson plans, assign and correct homework, manage students in the classroom. Communicate with parents and help students prepare for standard testing. Help students prepare the mastery of basic mathematical skills. Prepare appropriate instructional ads and provide study material to enhance learning techniques. Plan, develop, organize classes, and complete syllabi in a timely manner. Identify students' needs, assess, and resolve issues, if any. Initiate, facilitate, and moderate classroom discussions. Evaluate and grade students' class work, assignments, and papers.

Requirements

  • Bachelor's degree
  • Valid Texas teaching certificate for subject and level assigned preferred
  • Enrollment in alternative certification program preferred (if not already certified)
  • PreK, ESL, & Special Education positions require certification
  • Knowledge of subjects assigned
  • General knowledge of curriculum and instruction Ability to instruct students and manage their behavior
  • Strong organizational, communication, and interpersonal skills
  • Requires bachelor's degree in mathematics, or foreign equivalent, and 24 months experience teaching mathematics.

Nice To Haves

  • Master's degree preferred
  • At least one year teaching or approved internship preferred

Responsibilities

  • Provide students with appropriate learning activities and experiences designed to help them fulfill their potential for intellectual, emotional, physical, and social growth.
  • Enable students to develop competencies and skills to function successfully in society.
  • Prepare students for college.
  • Be a role model; uphold school vision of nurture, character, discipline, and academic excellence.
  • Develop and implement written lesson plans that fulfill the requirements of the district and TEA.
  • Prepare lessons that reflect accommodations for differences in student learning styles and needs.
  • Work cooperatively with special education teachers to modify curricula as needed for special education students according to guidelines established in Individual Education Plans (IEP).
  • Conduct ongoing assessment of student achievement and through formal and informal testing; support students through enrichment and co-curricular instruction.
  • Manage student behavior in accordance with Student Code of Conduct and student handbook.
  • Establish and maintain open lines of communication by conducting conferences with parents, students, principals, and teachers.
  • Participate in staff development activities to improve job-related skills--15 hours per year required. Maintain focus on continuous improvement.
  • Follow federal, state, and district policies and maintain confidentiality
  • Compile, maintain, and file all physical and electronic records (attendance, grades, etc.) as required.
  • Conduct assessment of student learning styles and use results to plan instructional activities.
  • Work with other members of staff to determine instructional goals, objectives, and methods according to district requirements.
  • Plan and supervise assignments of teacher aide(s) and volunteer(s).
  • Plan and use appropriate instructional and learning strategies, activities, materials, and equipment that reflect understanding of the learning styles and needs of students assigned.
  • Present subject matter according to guidelines established by Texas Education Agency, board policies, and administrative regulations.
  • Teach cocurricular and/or enrichment classes as assigned incorporating well-rounded instruction and activities as required.
  • Use technology to strengthen the teaching/learning process.
  • Help students analyze and improve study methods and habits.
  • Assume responsibility for extracurricular activities as assigned. Sponsor outside activities approved by the campus principal.
  • Create a classroom environment conducive to learning and appropriate for the physical, social, and emotional development of students.
  • Take all necessary and reasonable precautions to protect students, equipment, materials, and facilities.
  • Assist in selection of books, equipment, and other instructional materials.
  • Maintain a professional relationship with colleagues, students, parents, and community members.
