About The Position

This posting is for a Secondary English Teacher position, placed in courses for students in grades 9-12 for the 26-27 school year. Scheduled courses include upper-level English including Advanced Placement courses. A successful candidate will be expected to design and implement at least 1 high-quality elective course for High School students. Candidates who are not currently trained in Advanced Placement courses will be expected to attend this multi-day training during summer months.

Requirements

  • Bachelor’s Degree in English or similar program leading to Teaching Certificate
  • Valid Michigan Teaching Certificate with appropriate endorsements: BA, BX, or equivalent
  • Highly successful teaching experience or exceptional reviews with evidence of success as a student teacher
  • Design and implement cohesive courses, units, and lessons, monitoring student learning and adjusting as needed to ensure all students are challenged and learning
  • Deliver engaging lessons, adjusting teaching strategies as needed for different classes, groups and students
  • Form mutually-respectful and supportive, and collaborative professional relationships with students and colleagues
  • Collaborate with colleagues across the district, working as an empathetic, student-centered decision-maker
  • Reflect honestly and thoughtfully on learning, planning, and effectiveness of approaches
  • Demonstrate organization, attention to detail, desire for continuous improvement, and independence/drive in professional work
  • Communicate professionally in written and verbal modes with school personnel, students, parents, and community
  • Ability to interact with a variety of audiences and individuals and build community
