The primary purpose of this position is to identify dyslexic students by administering and interpreting diagnostic tests, and to provide therapy to those identified. The role requires applying knowledge of federal, state, and district 'Procedures Concerning Dyslexia' for both general and special education. The individual will instruct and evaluate students with dyslexia at any phase of the program. Additionally, the position involves providing leadership to teachers in English/Language Arts and Reading instruction, as well as in Response to Intervention (RTI) at all tiered levels. The individual will assist teachers in utilizing effective reading practices within the classroom setting and coordinate the Section 504 referral process for students with dyslexia. Instructional support and/or direct instruction will be provided as mandated by Texas law for students with dyslexia. The role also includes developing or modifying curriculum and preparing lessons and instructional materials tailored to student ability levels, and working in an itinerant capacity as assigned.
