About The Position

To provide direct administrative and clerical support to the Clerk of Court and First Deputy. Assume responsibilities in his/her absence and provide office supervision assistance to the main office clerical and administrative staff. Dauphin County Clerk of Courts is currently accepting applications for the full-time position of Second Deputy. The employee in this role is responsible for performing the following essential functions listed below: Review correspondence and communications from inmates, third parties and other government agencies and prepares acknowledgements or responses. Review case files returned from court. Prepare court commitments, bail and other essential court documents. Avails himself/herself for early, late or weekend court / trial activity. Answer phones and deals with public and professional inquiries. Cross trained to assist where needed. Trains new employees and advises staff of changes and updated to CPCMS. Fills in for Clerk of Court and 1st Deputy when both are unavailable. Assists in scanning, indexing and digitization of office files. Remains on duty after hours to oversee overtime, as needed. Assists Clerk of Court and 1st Deputy in providing adequate management and supervision of staff. Performs other duties as required. This is a non-union position.

Requirements

  • Graduation from high school or accredited equivalency program, plus an associate's degree of Paralegal Certification, and 2 years court related experience; or a bachelor's degree in criminal justice or related field.
  • 1 - 3 years' work experience in legal background; experience in County government or criminal justice preferred.
  • A favorable background required.
  • Must be able to sit, stand for long periods and walk intermittently throughout the workday, with frequent twisting and grasping and occasional bending, reaching, stooping, and climbing necessary to carry out job duties.
  • Dexterity requirements range from simple to coordinated movements of fingers/hands; feet/legs; torso necessary to carry out job duties.
  • Light work, with occasional lifting/carrying of objects with a maximum weight of 35 pounds.
  • Must demonstrate emotional stability.
  • Must be able to cope with the physical and mental stress of the position.
  • Must able to move frequently throughout the workday.
  • Must be able to pay close attention to details and concentrate on work.

Nice To Haves

  • 1 - 3 years' work experience in legal background; experience in County government or criminal justice preferred.
