About The Position

Rutgers School of Environmental and Biological Sciences (SEBS) Educational Opportunity (EOF) is seeking four (4), one-credit (1 cr.) Math Instructors to provide in-person instruction to first-year students in the SEBS EOF program taking a math course at Rutgers University, Spring Semester 2026. Instructors will lead supplemental support sessions in Elementary Algebra (640:025), Intermediate Algebra (640:026), Precalculus (640:111) and/or Calculus (640:135). The Academic Support course (11:364:112) meets Mondays, 4:05-5:00pm, for 14 weeks on the Cook/Douglass campus. In addition to class times, the instructor will also hold advising hours (2 hours per week) which can be held before and/or after class and by arrangement. The candidate will: provide academic support in developmental and/or college-level mathematics courses listed above; is responsible for preparing and delivering lectures in line with the students' primary math course, moderating classroom discussions, and administering and grading assessments appropriate to the course which may include classwork, homework assignments, short quizzes, etc.; maintain accurate grade and attendance records using Canvas as the primary LMS; adhere to all laws pertaining to disclosure of student records; be available for regular check-ins with the SEBS EOF course coordinator. Work closely with SEBS EOF students to improve their knowledge in math. Develop a lesson plan for the assigned math course. Utilizes the approved curriculum. Develops clearly stated course objectives and learning outcomes. Ensures the objectives and content of the courses taught are current and in-line with the RU math course syllabi and instruction. Assess students' progress by grading assignments, quizzes, and other work. Hold office hours as assigned. Keeps accurate classroom records. Uses and updates the required course management system. Meets deadlines and evaluates student work in a timely manner including submitting weekly assignments and final grades. Requirements

  • knowledge in college math levels being taught
  • teaching methods and superior communication skills
  • the ability to relate to students, other faculty, and college staff
  • the ability to handle a fast-paced, high-volume environment
  • knowledgeable of Zoom and Canvas platforms
  • completed bachelor's degree (at minimum)
  • 1 year experience in tutoring and/or math instruction at the college level
  • be a team player
  • have strong leadership skills
  • possess a high-energy level and a positive attitude
  • The ability to assist students with college-readiness skills is required
